Qualifications

  • 10+ years in a senior engineering role focused on MCC, VFD, and Switchgear design.
  • In-depth experience managing product development life cycles in fast-paced environments.
  • Proficient in PLC/HMI programming with Allen-Bradley and Siemens; familiarity with Mitsubishi is advantageous.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN design software.

What you will be doing:

The Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading electrical engineering projects, ensuring compliance with standards, and providing technical expertise while mentoring junior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Project Leadership: Lead and manage complex electrical engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet technical specifications and are delivered on time and within budget.
  2. Design and Development: Design and develop electrical systems, components, and test procedures ensuring innovative solutions that adhere to safety standards and industry regulations, including creating and maintaining design calculations and risk assessments.
  3. Technical Authority: Act as the technical authority within the electrical engineering discipline, ensuring all designs and assessments comply with statutory requirements and national standards.
  4. Collaboration: Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, including other engineering disciplines, sales, supply chain, and production, to achieve project goals and resolve any technical challenges that arise.
  5. Mentorship and Training: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional development and ensuring knowledge transfer within the team.
  6. Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex electrical issues, providing effective solutions to maintain project timelines and quality standards.
  7. Reporting: Prepare and present engineering reports to stakeholders, summarizing project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  8. Innovation: Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance engineering processes and project outcomes.


What we need from you:

  1. Education and Background
    1. Bachelor's degree in Power Electrical Engineering and/or Automation & Control and registered with Professional Engineers Ontario as a Professional Engineer.
    2. 10+ years of experience in senior engineering role in MCC, VFD, Switchgear design.
    3. In depth experience and knowledge of product development life cycle management in a fast pace, high-mix, low volume environment.
    4. Proficient in PLC/HMI programing for automation and controls with Allen-Bradly and Siemens. Familiar with Mitsubishi is a plus.
    5. Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and EPLAN.
    6. Strong understanding of industrial motor control, VFDs, and soft starters.
    7. Significant experience of designing for high-mix, low-volume, including:
      1. DFM, DFX.
      2. Modular, Configurable to Standardizations for custom products.
    8. Lean and Six-Sigma certification and/or experience are a strong asset.
    9. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a production-driven environment.

    1. Strong leadership and project management abilities are crucial for guiding teams and managing complex projects. This role is vital for advancing technological initiatives within an organization and ensuring that electrical engineering projects are executed efficiently and effectively
