Job Description

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Principal Transportation Planner to provide planning and technical expertise in support of expediting engineering-oriented projects in the region, including roadway and multimodal projects. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following
  • Coordinating with internal/external partners to determine the appropriate identification and evaluation of alternative alignments and transportation modes
  • Working with partner agencies to advance project delivery
  • Participating in public involvement activities
  • Conducting and reviewing highly technical analyses
  • Coordinating with appropriate transportation and resource agencies
  • Preparing and reviewing correspondence, technical reports, executive summaries, grant applications, and other documents
  • Preparing and delivering oral presentations

Required Skills:
  • Excellent analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, both verbal and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel, familiarity with Microsoft Teams desired
  • Familiarity with civil engineering principles, design, and project development
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing the quality of work
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in analytical, quantitative methods (e.g., engineering)
  • At least five years of job-related experience
  • Professional Engineer license preferred, but not required

Starting Salary Range:

Minimum of $85,798.06 - $102,957.67 annually
