Principal Technical Advisor.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership
  • Establish cost-effective technical solutions to issues generated by frequently changing requirements.
  • Define and conduct technical investigations where appropriate.
  • Develop innovative methods and technologies to mitigate programmatic and operational issues.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and leadership in resolving highly complex technical and operational challenges.
  • Assess and resolve issues impacting organizational strategy, operations, policies, process improvements, and future program direction.
Project & Program Management
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams on highly visible and business-sensitive projects.
  • Manage projects involving complex technical, budget, schedule, and regulatory compliance issues.
  • Define the scope of new projects and changing technical program requirements.
  • Manage special projects involving multiple divisions, departments, or organizations.
  • Develop strategic plans for major program initiatives and technical issue resolution.
Strategic Planning & Organizational Support
  • Propose strategic business goals, milestones, and performance measures.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that support organizational objectives.
  • Provide technical and operational input for:
    • Authorization Basis Documents
    • Technical reports
    • Program-level procedures
    • Training programs
    • Operational procedures
  • Support programmatic improvement initiatives aligned with mission goals.
Technical Representation
  • Represent the organization on technical matters with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage technical correspondence and communications.
  • Interface with:
    • DOE-SR
    • DOE-HQ
    • Oversight panels and boards
    • Other external organizations
  • Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert on emerging technologies, theories, principles, and concepts.
Problem Solving & Decision Making
  • Independently resolve complex organizational and programmatic challenges.
  • Utilize available resources and technical expertise with limited direction.
  • Ensure adherence to technical policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Consult with management regarding corrective actions and improvement plans.
Safety Responsibilities
  • Make safety an integral part of all work activities.
  • Obtain required safety training and follow all safety rules.
  • Stop work when unsafe conditions exist or could be created.
WORK SCHEDULE
  • Standard 40-hour work week
  • Available schedules may include:
    • 5/8 Schedule (8 hours/day, 5 days/week)
    • 4/10 Schedule (10 hours/day, 4 days/week)
    • 9/80 Schedule (9-hour days with alternating Fridays off)
  • Work week excludes company holidays
  • 30-minute lunch period each workday
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deliverables at management discretion
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Chemistry
    • Physics
    • Biology
    • Chemical Engineering
    • Nuclear Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
  • 15-20 years of experience, preferably in nuclear-related assignments, including direct operations management.

OR
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD/Doctorate) may reduce the required years of experience proportionally.

Some assignments may require a degree in Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science along with significant practical experience.

SECURITY REQUIREMENTS
DOE Q Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" Security Clearance.
  • An active DOE clearance is not required to start work.
  • Selected candidates will be instructed when to begin the clearance process based on project assignments.
