Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Systems Engineer - Client Development to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Systems Engineering organization. This role is located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.


To be successful in this role, you would consider yourself a self-starter with familiarity working in an Integrated Product Team construct. You'll need to utilize your strong grasp of agile methodologies concerning software development. You will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility. There is no remote / hybrid / telework available for this position. Travel up to 10% may be required.

Roles and Responsibilities will include:

  • Full lifecycle design, implementation, and unit testing of software.
  • In depth understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field listed under the basic qualifications.
  • Design, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions.
  • Develop software and analytical tools to model behavior of systems in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Solicit input from various stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to various levels of leadership.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 1 year of relevant military / professional / academic experience
  • Must have experience with computer/engineering skills using Object Oriented Programming languages (MATLAB, python, C#/++).
  • Must have experience in developing software for use in both Windows and Linux environments.
  • Must have experience with version control tools (Bitbucket, GitHub, Gitlab, etc.).
  • Must have an active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance or higher (with a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas:
    • Mission planning and CONOPS development
    • Systems performance monitoring and analysis
    • Modeling or Simulation of RF propagation, Electronic Warfare, RADAR, missiles, aircraft, or satellites.
  • The ability to develop physics-based models and simulations using Object Oriented programming.
  • Systems and software integration experience.
  • An ability to work with a team in a rapid prototyping environment.
  • Experience with system of systems modeling tools: AFSIM, Suppressor, or Brawler.
  • Experience with version control tools (Bitbucket, GitHub, Gitlab, etc.).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills to include project/analysis lead experience.

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
