The Processing, Guidance & Control (PG&C) Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing (SP); and missile-and-sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. In the SP Department, we design, integrate, and optimize sensor control, detection processing, tracking, and classification algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.
The Signal Processing Department within PG&C is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer - Algorithms Integration Lead for an Advanced Technology program. This is an onsite position located in Tucson, AZ.
What You Will Do:
- You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of 8–10 engineers across software, systems integration & test, simulation, and algorithms
- Work with the Signal Processing (SP) and Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) teams to define algorithm integration and test strategies across multiple hardware test platforms.
- Lead a team responsible for running integration tests and analyzing results to verify algorithm functionality and performance
- Design and oversee the development of test builds used to validate algorithm implementation and overall system performance
- Partner with Software Configuration Management (SCM) and other stakeholders to develop and improve software build and release processes
- Partner with Systems Engineering to write and release software requirements
- Design and develop the ground test software platform based on requirements from internal and external teams
- Lead the design, implementation, and testing of device drivers that enable SP and GNC algorithms to communicate with hardware peripherals (e.g., cameras, IMUs, and other sensors)
- Meet regularly with the SP and GNC development teams to ensure embedded software supports algorithm performance goals
- Perform timing and performance analysis across algorithms, embedded software, and device drivers to ensure the system meets performance requirements
- Meet regularly with functional department leads to review team performance metrics
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Physics, Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience
- Experience with EO/IR Signal Processing algorithm development and/or EO/IR analysis (background filtering, temporal filtering, thresholding/segmentation, tracking)
- Experience supporting hardware activities leading to test events, such as calibration and acceptance testing for sensors and devices and ensuring that the selected hardware supports test objectives
- Experience programming in C/C++, Python, and/or MATLAB
- Experience with Windriver/VxWorks development and real-time debugging on hardware
- Active and transferable Top Secret U.S. government issued Security Clearance is required prior to start date with the ability to obtain special program access after start.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Strong knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems
- Knowledge of Network Programming (TCP/IP, UDP)
- Familiarity with Rate Monotonic Analysis (RMA) and asynchronous process timing/benchmarking
- Knowledge and understanding of guidance, navigation, and control fundamentals (Kalman filters, open/closed loop guidance, Direction Cosine Matrices)

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
