Job SummaryAt this time, only current PSEG employees are being considered. This position is in the Electric Transmission and Distribution Electric Operations Organization. It is as a leader-level engineering position with the expectation of being able to function in a group leader/team leader role, overseeing the work and performance of other MAST associates and/or engineering personnel, supporting supervision of field forces and/or supervision/direction of craft/construction in a union environment. Manage functions of day-to-day operations in all areas of Electric Distribution.
Support the operation of PSEG's Electric Distribution, which operates 24x7 and 365 days per year. Provide a range of engineering expertise and management to operate and maintain the integrity of the Electric Transmission and Distribution System. Provide technical support to client and associate support staff to ensure development and deployment of efficient application systems utilizing established standards, procedures and methodologies. Perform engineering and serve as technical lead through the application of engineering and business knowledge. Utilize a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices, including financial and cost management. Coordinate and assemble information and a variety of reports required for regulatory, internal, and senior leadership review.
Job Responsibilities- Function at a Principal Staff Engineer level, within the Electric Operations organization, utilizing a broad knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. This is a field engineering position with an emphasis on operations, construction, and maintenance environments.
- Apply broad knowledge and experience with electric transmission and distribution operations, familiarity with inside/outside plant assets and experience interpreting electrical and/or civil construction drawings.
- Oversee and support of supervision of field forces, supervision/direction of craft/construction and/or engineering personnel in a union environment, work management, project management, as well as other technical, administrative, and leadership duties.
- Focus on other specific areas that include: customer inquiries, system planning and reinforcement, "outside plant" engineering of overhead and underground facilities, street lighting, mapping/record management, new business, and facility relocations.
- Coordinate and participate in division workload scheduling, estimating project costs, monitoring project costs and implementing controls as required.
- Facilitate and apply process improvement techniques to address gaps identified within Electric Operations.
- Administer the Company/Union labor agreement in accordance with Company policy.
- Represent the Company in negotiating with municipalities, outside contractors, and customers.
- Function as a key team member in the storm restoration processes and be available for scheduled or call-out overtime.
- Possess demonstrated leadership skills, professionalism, and customer/client focus.
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
- As an employee of PSE&G, during storm/outage restoration efforts, may be required to perform functions different from normal operations and the regular work schedule. May also be required to work in an alternate location.
Job Specific Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (mechanical, electrical, civil, industrial) or other STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related discipline, or 6 years of related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of business and engineering principles and practices.
- 6 or more years of experience within Power industry, which may include electric transmission and distribution operations, familiarity with inside/outside plant assets and/or experience in interpreting electrical, civil construction drawings technical documents and/or schematics.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, ANSI, DOT, OSHA, etc.) and practices.
- Proficient in relevant Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work independently on most technical issues.
- Experience directly supervising craft/construction personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to manage medium-to-large projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and effective decision-making abilities.
- Strong planning and organizing skills; must be adaptable to dynamic situations and be results-oriented.
- Clearly demonstrated individual and team leadership on critical projects or initiatives.
- Possess and maintain a valid U.S. driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driving record.
- On call 24/7 hours to assist during system emergency situations and restoration
- Must be willing and able to perform regularly scheduled weekend and holiday work in conjunction with quality checks and reporting requirements
Desired- Advanced degree in Business Management or Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience managing small to moderate projects.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Proficient in reading one-line controls diagrams.
- Project Management Institute (PMI) Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
