Principal Software Engineer - Regulatory Technology

The regulatory technology team develops technology solutions to surveil 12 different equities, options and futures trading venues across US and Europe.

Our principal engineers mentor high performing engineering teams to design novel engineering solutions, new datasets, automation tools and engineering processes to deliver on mission critical projects. We process data from 12 equities, options and futures market exchange platforms across the US, and Europe. We architect systems that can analyze billions of events per day. We optimize for increases in data volumes. We strive to create insights and data that provides actionable intelligence to our analysts to ensure fair, orderly and complaint operation of all our markets. Responsibilities:

The Principal engineer, Regulatory Technology will take architectural ownership of regulatory technology platform. This position is a key leadership role in ensuring that technology is set up to support the critical market surveillance function for our expanding business.

Architecture Ownership
  • Design and evaluate alternate technology architectures for regulatory surveillance
  • Evolve current regulatory technology architecture in line with evolving Titanium technology architecture
  • Ensure that surveillance technology architecture is set up to handle 2x last known peak of order activity with an acceptable throughput at optimal cost
  • Ensure regulatory platforms are designed for operational resilience and deliver top tier automation, auditing and observability
  • Conduct PoCs on third party technology and datasets to evaluate suitability for Regulatory needs
  • Author Architecture Review Board (ARB) proposals on behalf of Regulatory technology department
  • Interface with other Cboe technology teams on behalf of regulatory technology department to build optimal interfaces and integrations

Dataset design and development
  • Design and develop new datasets for regulatory surveillance and regulatory machine learning
  • Design and develop automated data ingestion pipelines for regulatory data
  • Recommend best suited data sources available within the enterprise for regulatory needs
  • Design datasets to align with best practices to leverage ML effectively

Support and mentorship
  • Evaluate and develop automated testing strategies that improve code quality while reducing the cost of quality
  • Provide inputs to the regulatory AI team to build new tooling for SDLC optimization and drive adoption
  • Mentor developers to adopt development best practices and ensure consistency at detailed design level across the surveillance code base
  • Work with regulatory division staff to drive adoption of new technology tools and datasets
  • Provide high level design instruction to engineers for new surveillances
  • Participate in system performance and capacity reviews, provide guidance to SREs and developers on steps to resolve any system performance and capacity issues
  • Provide inputs to team managers as need for project planning and estimation

Job Requirements
  • Ten years of hands-on experience building new production grade data sets and data analytics systems.
  • Five years of experience working in capital markets trading environment
  • Hands on experience using Python and Java as primary programming languages.
  • Hands-on experience using Snowflake and SQL as an application developer and data analyst.
  • Able to provide constructive and actionable feedback to engineers on their work product
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in presenting to and getting buy in from enterprise audience.
  • Hands-on development experience in AWS cloud using big data analytics such as Amazon EMR is a nice to have, can be substituted with equivalent experience on other popular cloud environments.
  • Prior experience using agile methodologies and test-driven development is highly desired.
  • Exchange technology or market regulatory technology experience will be a huge plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a related field (can be substituted by significant software development experience)

Salary Ranges (applicable for US locations only)
At Cboe, we are committed to providing a competitive, transparent, and market-informed total rewards program. The anticipated base salary range for this role is $165,750-$214,500, with actual compensation determined by job-related factors such as skills, relevant experience, education, internal alignment, and location.

This role may also be eligible for annual incentive compensation and, where applicable, participation in Cboe's long-term equity programs.
