Full Job Description
General Description:

Candidates must be able to work onsite in San Carlos, California.

As a Principal Scientist at BeOne Institute, you will lead the discovery and translational efforts to advance breakthrough target discoveries. You will serve as a scientific leader within the Institute, shaping therapeutic area strategy, identifying differentiated opportunities, and influencing portfolio decisions through deep biological insight and innovative thinking.

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Identify and advance high-value therapeutic targets across immunology, inflammation and immuno-oncology therapeutic areas, aligned with organizational strategy, portfolio priorities and emerging scientific opportunities.
  • Lead the design and execution of rigorous in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo studies to validate target biology, establish disease rationale, evaluate therapeutic modalities, develop mechanistic insight, and generate decision-enabling data packages.
  • Shape scientific strategy by integrating biological insights, translational considerations, competitive intelligence, and internal/external innovations to drive differentiated pipeline opportunities.
  • Communicate progress through regular updates while proactively identifying challenges and proposing solutions.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary or cross-functional collaborations and drive innovation within and beyond the Institute.
  • Mentor and develop scientists, fostering technical excellence, scientific rigor, and professional growth across the organization.
  • Contribute to management and operational activities to support strategic objectives of the BeOne Institute at the San Carlos site.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May directly manage scientists and/or provide matrix leadership for project teams


Requirements:
  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent advanced degree with deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: cancer biology, immuno-oncology, immunology, or a related life sciences discipline.
  • 6+ years post-degree professional experience in academia and/or industry, with a demonstrated track record of scientific innovation, program leadership, and contributions to drug discovery or impactful scientific achievements.
  • Experience with one or more of the following is preferred: immune organoid culture, AI-driven protein design, protein engineering, induced proximity technologies, synthetic biology approaches, or other innovative therapeutic platforms.
  • Working knowledge of biologics, small molecules and other complex modalities.
  • Experience with omics data analysis and/or preclinical immunology and oncology mouse models is a plus.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and interdisciplinary research environment, and to integrate multi-disciplinary approaches to solve complex biological problems.
  • Scientific leadership to build and sustain collaborative relationships across functional and disciplinary boundaries.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Salary Range: $198,000.00 - $247,500.00 annually

Non-Commercial roles are eligible to participate in the annual bonus plan, and Commercial roles are eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
