Principal Scientist - QC Environmental Monitoring/Microbiology

Location: Portsmouth, NH, USA.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.

Join Lonza's Quality Control team in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where you will play a key role in supporting the quality and reliability of life-changing therapies. As a Principal Scientist - QC Environmental Monitoring/Microbial Control, you will contribute to technology transfer, validation, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives while working closely with customers, project teams, and laboratory colleagues.

In this highly collaborative role, you will serve as a technical expert across multiple scientific disciplines, helping drive project success, troubleshoot complex laboratory challenges, and support the development of fellow team members.

What you will do
  • Support technology transfer, validation, deviation, and investigation activities.
  • Author technical documents, including test methods, protocols, and reports.
  • Lead equipment, template, and form setup activities for validation projects.
  • Analyze data and troubleshoot assay and instrumentation issues.
  • Collaborate with project teams to drive projects to successful completion.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining Data Integrity standards.

What we are looking for
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Experience working in a GMP-regulated or professional laboratory environment.
  • Strong scientific writing skills and experience preparing technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of assay validation, technology transfer, and investigation activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work independently.
