As a Principal Project Planner, you will join a team that is helping customers navigate complex challenges while advancing projects that support a more sustainable future. You will bring deep planning and scheduling expertise to major projects, helping ensure successful delivery through thoughtful analysis, strategic insight, and strong collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Purpose of the Role Play an integral role in leading project planning and scheduling activities across complex engineering, procurement, and construction projects. You will provide technical leadership and guidance to planning and scheduling teams, ensuring schedules are accurate, integrated, and aligned with project execution strategies. You will be responsible for assessing the quality and integrity of engineering and construction schedules, identifying risks and opportunities, supporting informed decision-making, and helping project teams achieve successful outcomes. Through collaboration with project leadership, customers, and functional teams, you will contribute to the delivery of sustainable solutions that create long-term value for our customers and communities. Core Responsibilities You will be responsible for: - Leading the development, review, maintenance, and analysis of integrated project schedules across all phases of project delivery. - Coordinating the activities of planners and schedulers to ensure consistency, quality, and alignment with project objectives. - Assessing the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup schedules. - Providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise in planning, scheduling, forecasting, and schedule analysis. - Identifying schedule risks, constraints, and opportunities and working with project teams to develop effective mitigation strategies. - Monitoring project progress, analyzing performance trends, and supporting the development of recovery and improvement plans where required. - Collaborating with project managers, engineering teams, construction teams, project controls professionals, and customers to support successful project execution. - Presenting scheduling methodologies, project status, schedule analyses, and planning recommendations to internal and external stakeholders. - Supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of planning systems, tools, processes, and best practices. - Providing technical guidance, mentoring, coaching, and knowledge sharing to planning and scheduling professionals. - Reviewing planning deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project and organizational requirements. - Supporting workforce capability development through participation in training, performance feedback, and technical development initiatives. - Contributing to strategic planning discussions by providing schedule insight, trend analysis, and recommendations that support business and project objectives. - Promoting a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence. What You'll Bring to the Role - Degree qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. - Significant experience in project planning, scheduling, and project controls within the energy, chemicals, resources, infrastructure, or related industries. - Demonstrated experience supporting complex engineering and construction projects through multiple phases of the project lifecycle. - Strong knowledge of project planning principles, scheduling methodologies, forecasting techniques, and project controls processes. - Advanced capability in schedule development, critical path analysis, progress measurement, performance reporting, and schedule risk assessment. - Experience working with planning and scheduling software and project controls systems used within large-scale project environments. - Ability to interpret complex data, identify patterns and trends, and develop practical recommendations that support project success. - Strong business acumen with the ability to understand broader project and organizational objectives. - Demonstrated ability to influence and guide teams through technical expertise and collaborative leadership. - Experience mentoring and developing planning and scheduling professionals. - Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and effectively. - Ability to build productive working relationships across diverse teams, functions, and customer organizations. - Strong problem-solving skills, sound professional judgment, and a proactive approach to managing challenges and opportunities. - Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and delivering sustainable outcomes.
