JOB SUMMARY

Kleinfelder's Appalachian Mountain Area is looking for Principal Professionals on a flexible basis to support our growing Abandoned Mines Program in the Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio tri-state area. 

 

These hires will support the overall abandoned mines technical program and projects of varying size, with overall program/project responsibilities, and will work independently, using knowledge of industry and/or professional guidelines and protocols to accomplish goals and objectives and solve complex problems.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures consistently accurate and timely client and management communications.
  • Resolves abstract problems/difficult technical matters (independently and/or as the leader of a technical team) and serves as a technical resource regionally or to a specific market.
  • Leads project development work from initial site assessment, proposal scope identification, risk assessment and project coordination through to completion/construction.
  • As a lead technical specialist in discipline, performs analytical, field and project management work as needed to support existing and new projects.
  • Assists with business relationship development as well as proposal preparation for the overall program.

Is recognized regionally or within a specific market for analyzing and solving complex, multi-faceted technical problems within their practice area. Routinely engages and assists other specialized technical staff to work on appropriate facets, stewarding the process, setting priorities and levels of effort, and distilling the combined effort to a cohesive conclusion. Mentors staff within the Abandoned Mines Program on project development, data management and problem solving related to watershed-based assessments and the overall impacts of abandoned mine lands and/or discharges.

 

Project Peer Review

Performs and executes Project Peer Review in compliance with Kleinfelder's KQP 4.5. Peer Reviews proposals and project deliverables in accordance with KQP 4.5 with a critical review of the technical approach used to form the professional opinions, recommendations. Confirms the work complies with project requirements and the professional standard of care.

 

Technical Communication

Effectively and convincingly communicates technical information in meetings/presentations to practitioners, clients and laypersons. Proficient at communicating with clients or public and routinely accompanies CAMs in market focused meetings or presentations. Frequently presents and/or participates at external conferences and/or technical seminar. Is recognized as a regional or companywide expert in at least one area of the practice.

 

Technical Problem Solving 

Applies creativity and appropriate independent thought to solve technical problems commensurate with the job level. Is an internal regional or market specific resource for solving complex technical problems in the discipline. Leads teams of internal or external technical resources to bring the most appropriate technical expertise for the solution. Mentors junior staff on problem solving approaches, developing the big picture understanding.

 

Health & Safety

Demonstrates understanding and commitment to risk assessment and the Health and Safety planning hierarchy by conducting risk reviews for high-hazard work at the proposal stage, and budgeting for Health and Safety for each project in their portfolios. Demonstrates leadership in conducting Management Site Visits and LPOs, providing recognition, coaching and mentoring junior staff for effective project safety management, etc. Demonstrates commitment to vetting and managing subcontractors for safety success.

 

EXPERIENCE & ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS

 

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education required, Master's preferred.

 

Experience: 20+ years of related experience in consulting engineering firm or related service business and/or regulatory agency and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations required; or 8 years related experience with a Master's; or 6 years related experience with a PhD.

 

Following an offer, candidates will be required to satisfactorily complete employment reference checks, verification of professional licensure and/or educational credentials, a motor vehicle report (MVR), and a comprehensive background check.
