Overview

Microsoft Digital (MSD) develops and operates products, platforms, and services that support Microsoft employees and business operations. The organization brings together technical, operational, and business expertise to deliver solutions that support productivity, security, and operational effectiveness across Microsoft. MSD employees design, implement, and manage technology solutions at enterprise scale.

The Principal Product Manager will manage governance, onboarding, lifecycle management, compliance, and enablement processes for third-party applications and artificial intelligence agents used across the enterprise. Collaborate across procurement, security, compliance, developer enablement, platform operations, tenant operations, and artificial intelligence initiatives.

It defines and manages processes, policies, and operational frameworks that support the evaluation, onboarding, use, and lifecycle management of external applications and artificial intelligence agents. These processes incorporate enterprise requirements related to procurement, security, privacy, identity, compliance, lifecycle management, and risk management.

The Principal Product Manager collaborates with stakeholders across procurement, product engineering, security, compliance, platform operations, service engineering, application publishers, and business teams to support the adoption and management of third-party applications and artificial intelligence-enabled solutions. At par balances business needs, operational requirements, and governance standards while supporting a consistent and scalable approach across the organization.

This position establishes processes and policies that help employees identify and adopt approved external applications and agents while meeting enterprise procurement, security, privacy, identity, lifecycle, and risk management requirements. The role connects procurement, product groups, security teams, compliance organizations, service engineers, application publishers, business stakeholders, and end users.

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for establishing and operating enterprise processes for the governance and lifecycle management of third-party applications and artificial intelligence agents. Responsibilities include:
  • Define and operate enterprise frameworks for onboarding, approval, publication, monitoring, remediation, and retirement of third-party applications and artificial intelligence agents.
  • Establish ownership and accountability, connect procurement and governance processes, and document procedures for risk acceptance and remediation.
  • Manage the application and agent lifecycle from intake and review through certification, publication, updates, and decommissioning.
  • Align catalogs, administrative experiences, and governance platforms to support consistent lifecycle management and tenant maintenance at scale.
  • Manage compliance and certification programs, including readiness, validation, monitoring, renewal, and remediation activities.
  • Partner with identity, security, and platform teams to govern administrative consent, permissions, authentication, single sign-on, and external identity integration.
  • Assess ecosystem risks and provide recurring reports to leadership.
  • Maintain a centralized catalog of approved applications and agents, including ownership, certification status, metadata, and governance indicators.
  • Develop processes that support employees in discovering, evaluating, requesting, and adopting compliant external solutions and approved alternatives.
  • Coordinate with Product Groups, Security, Compliance, Identity, Legal, Engineering, Operations, Procurement, and business stakeholders to address ownership and process gaps.
  • Partner with the Enterprise App and Agent Ecosystem lead on strategy, priorities, and execution.
  • Define enterprise readiness standards for third-party agents, including observability, safety, compliance, and lifecycle requirements.
  • Use defined measures to evaluate approval-cycle duration, compliance and catalog coverage, unmanaged-solution reduction, and readiness for growth in agent adoption.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of experience bringing a product, feature, service, or internal solution from concept through implementation and adoption, including areas such as design, product-market fit assessment, release planning, and launch.
  • 6+ years of experience driving improvements in product, feature, or service outcomes through adoption, engagement, usage, retention, or operational metrics.
  • 6+ years of experience delivering products, features, or services in competitive markets, including identifying opportunities to differentiate solutions and address customer and business needs.
  • Experience with SaaS ecosystems, application marketplaces, AI agents, and enterprise administration.
  • Experience supporting third-party application or AI agent onboarding, publishing, certification, monitoring, remediation, and retirement processes.
  • Experience with consent management, permissions governance, identity integration, authentication, single sign-on (SSO), and external identity scenarios.
  • Experience developing, operating, or improving enterprise application catalogs and solution discovery experiences.
  • Experience establishing operational processes and service models that support large-scale application or agent ecosystems.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: platform governance, security, compliance, identity, enterprise application management, or related disciplines.
  • Experience leading cross-functional programs involving multiple stakeholder groups and organizational priorities.
  • Experience designing and implementing operational processes, governance frameworks, and change management approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders across functions, including finance, procurement, engineering, security, compliance, operations, and leadership teams.
  • Experience balancing business objectives with security, privacy, compliance, and risk management requirements.
  • Demonstrated communication, stakeholder management, cross-functional leadership, and decision-making skills.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
