Job Description

This role will be based in New York, San Francisco, Mountain View, or Bellevue.

At LinkedIn, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

Our mission. Gen Z is entering the workforce at scale and bringing new expectations for how professional relationships begin and grow. They are gravitating toward spaces where people with shared interests can exchange ideas, learn from one another, and build identity and trust over time. Unlike one-way content experiences, communities create an ongoing loop of participation and belonging: every conversation adds context, strengthens relationships, and gives people a reason to return. By bringing together trusted identity, the professional graph, messaging, and global reach, we can create spaces where people return, contribute, and build relationships that move their careers and lives forward.

What this role is: We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to build a new member product at the intersection of messaging and communities. Think of the best parts of modern messaging and community products, rebuilt for the professional world and powered by what makes LinkedIn unique. This is a true zero-to-one role. You will define the vision, find the wedge, validate the core use cases, launch an MVP, and build toward product-market fit. There is no established playbook. We need someone who is excited to write it.

What you'll do:
  • You will operate like a founder: close to members, close to the product, and close to the details. You will move from insight to prototype to launch quickly, learn from what works and what does not, and bring engineering, design, data science, research, trust, and operations along with you.
  • You will bring deep expertise in messaging and communities: how conversations start and persist, why people join and return, and how product mechanics shape participation and belonging. Success is not simply more messages sent. It is healthy, retained communities where members keep showing up and form relationships that matter.

Why are we here: The best opportunities often come through people: someone who shares your interests, understands what you care about, introduces a new idea, or opens a door you did not know existed. And today, your network is far more fluid than a list of connections. It includes the people you learn from, exchange ideas with, and build relationships with over time in the communities where you belong. Our job is to help every professional find their people; and turn shared interests into relationships that move their work and lives forward

Responsibilities
  • Define the vision and strategy for a new LinkedIn experience spanning messaging and professional communities.
  • Discover the strongest member needs, identify the right initial wedge, and turn those insights into a focused roadmap.
  • Lead the product from concept through prototype, MVP launch, early adoption, and rapid iteration.
  • Define the core product systems that help people discover, join, participate in, and return to healthy communities.
  • Establish product-market fit signals centered on retention, repeat participation, community health, and meaningful professional relationships.
  • Build trust, safety, moderation, and member control into the product and operating model from the beginning.
  • Make clear trade-offs across member value, quality, speed, safety, and long-term scale.
  • Align cross-functional teams and senior leaders around the opportunity, priorities, risks, progress, and key decisions.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications
  • BS/BA Degree in a technology related field OR equivalent experience
  • 7+ years of experience in product management or equivalent role

Preferred Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in product management or an equivalent role.
  • 5+ years of experience building and scaling high-quality messaging or community products for large and diverse audiences.
  • Deep product judgment across conversation design, discovery, identity, participation, retention, notifications, trust and safety, moderation, and community health.
  • A hands-on builder who can move easily between strategy and execution, make decisions with imperfect information, and lead through ambiguity.
  • Strong technical, analytical, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Suggested Skills
  • AI Fluency
  • Zero-to-One Product Development
  • Consumer Product Strategy
  • Trust, Safety, and Community Health
