Full Job Description
Purpose:

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Fire Protection Engineer. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer is a full-time position to be based out of our offices in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide guidance on the appropriate risk mitigation measures required for operational and integrity related Process Safety and Fire Protection issues.
  • Provide guidance on operational issues for fire protection engineering systems including active and passive fire protection, explosion protection systems, fire and gas detection and emergency response planning.
  • Knowledge and/or participation of industry/group led research or developments in the management of fire and explosion hazards.
  • Provide guidance, development and lateral learning to other Fire Protection Engineers.
  • Support the Lead Safety Engineer, project management, site contractors and engineering disciplines with process safety and fire protection concerns and queries
  • Lead and manage specialist Process Safety and Fire Protection Engineering Contractors and Vendors, including work planning and prioritization, QA, and budgetary control.
  • Delivery of formal safety studies including Consequence Assessments, Fire Safety Studies, Escape and Muster Studies, Equipment Survivability Studies, risk assessments both qualitative and quantitative
  • Facilitate fire risk workshops.
  • Team player, able to motivate peers, influence without direct authority and manage change.
  • Positive and forward-looking attitude where the incumbent works with clients to create a positive result vs. policing and enforcement.


Technical and Industry Experience:
  • Knowledge of all components of fire protection engineering
  • Determination of fire Hazard zoning strategy.
  • Experienced in fire protection gap analysis, code compliance, performance based and risk based analysis
  • Knowledge of applicable local/international safety and fire protection standards, statutory and regulatory specifications such as National Fire Code, Building Code, NFPA, API, ASME etc.
  • Facilitating fire hazard analysis and risk workshops
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the fundamentals of risk-based and performance-based fire protection engineering.
  • Experienced in the design of active and passive fire protection systems, including fire water, sprinkler and deluge, clean agent, fireproofing, fire zones, etc. using proprietary software i.e. AFT-Fathom and Pipenet.
  • Experienced in consequence modelling, risk analysis and thermal radiation simulation using PHAST and SAFETI
  • Ability to determine industry trends and best practices in fire protection engineering, loss prevention and management.
  • Having experience in Fire Protection System Design for Greenfield & Brownfield EPC Projects, pipelines, storage areas and terminals.
  • Capable of preparing Fire Protection and Fire and Gas related deliverables, such as conceptual layout drawings, P&IDs, Block Diagrams and Cause & Effect Diagrams
  • Experienced in the design of fire and gas detection and alarm systems with detail knowledge of fire alarm control panels, interface connections, wiring and cable routing, fire and gas mapping, etc.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:
  • University graduate in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Fire Engineering.
  • Extensive and relevant Safety, Risk and Fire Protection experience.

Preferred:
  • Extensive experience in production or engineering of oil and gas facilities, Hydrogen, mining and chemical industries, Carbon Capture, loading/unloading terminals, etc.
  • P. Eng (APEGA) designation.
  • NFPA Certified.
