Full Job Description
Required to be in Nashville, TN.

OCI is transforming the developer platform experience. We are building an all-new application deployment system that will become a critical foundation for how developers build, validate, release, operate, and evolve services on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. This is a rare opportunity to shape a greenfield platform with broad customer impact and a direct role in OCI's next phase of growth.

As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will define and drive the technical direction for reliable, secure, and delightful deployment capabilities across the OCI Developer Platform. You will align teams around durable platform primitives, remove systemic barriers to developer velocity, and establish industry-leading foundations for the rapid adoption of agentic engineering-without compromising the safety, governance, or reliability of our systems.

This is a high-leverage Principal engineering role at the intersection of developer productivity, cloud reliability, and the future of software delivery. You will shape a platform that enables OCI teams and customers to deliver value more quickly and safely, while establishing a durable technical standard for trustworthy agentic engineering at cloud scale.

Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including a record of leading the design and delivery of production-quality distributed systems, platform services, or developer tools.
  • Strong programming skills in one or more modern languages such as Java, Go, C++, C#, Python, or similar.
  • Deep experience designing APIs, data models, and service architectures with attention to scalability, availability, security, operability, and long-term evolution.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native systems, including containers, orchestration, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, or release engineering concepts.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and ownership: you can define strategy, align stakeholders, drive execution across teams, and remain accountable for outcomes in production.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and build alignment across engineering disciplines and organizational boundaries.

Preferred qualifications: Experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus.
  • Application deployment platforms, continuous delivery, GitOps, artifact management, or developer platform engineering.
  • Large-scale distributed systems, multi-tenant cloud services, control planes, workflow orchestration, or platform architecture.
  • Site reliability engineering, production incident response, observability, capacity planning, or performance engineering at scale.
  • Security engineering, identity and access management, policy-as-code, supply-chain security, or compliance automation.
  • AI-assisted developer tools, agentic workflows, or the design of safety controls and governance for autonomous or semi-autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

  • Define the architecture and technical strategy for core services and APIs that power OCI's modern application deployment platform.
  • Lead the delivery of resilient, scalable deployment workflows and platform primitives that enable developers to safely ship changes across diverse environments and service architectures.
  • Influence product and engineering direction across teams; translate ambiguous, multi-organization needs into clear technical strategies, design principles, and execution plans.
  • Establish safety and reliability as platform defaults through strong isolation, policy enforcement, auditability, observability, rollback and recovery paths, and thoughtful failure handling.
  • Shape the technical foundations for AI- and agent-assisted engineering workflows, including appropriate controls, least-privilege access, governance, and human oversight.
  • Use operational signals, customer feedback, and industry trends to identify high-leverage investments that improve developer experience, availability, performance, and deployment success rates.
  • Raise the engineering bar across the organization through architecture reviews, technical mentorship, design standards, and pragmatic leadership on complex cross-team initiatives.
