Overview

Our Nuclear Services Group is seeking a Pipe Stress Engineer to join the team. In this role, you will prepare documentation of the pipe stress analysis and support design for process piping and utility piping systems in support of nuclear projects. This position can be located in one of the following office locations:

Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work within the Enercon Services Piping Design & Analysis team which is responsible for performing analyses on nuclear reactor systems and components, which includes piping evaluations, pipe stress analyses, fracture evaluations, seismic, thermal, and vibrational responses, to ensure performance and regulatory compliance. The selected candidate will work along side other team members and will assist with solving stress and support challenges, and collaborate across disciplines to deliver safe, compliant designs-ensuring every detail meets industry standards and client needs.

  • Pipe Stress Analysis & Pipe Support Design: Prepare complete documentation of the pipe stress analysis and support design for process piping and utility piping systems in support of nuclear and non-nuclear projects by:
    • Perform piping flexibility analysis (static and dynamic) for critical piping systems
    • Perform analysis for sustained, thermal, and multiple operating cases, occasional (winds, seismic, relief, water hammer, etc.)
    • Resolve high pipe loads on equipment nozzles & high secondary stresses in piping
    • Evaluate local stresses via applicable code cases
    • Locate and identify pipe supports on isometrics along with identifying support types (e.g., spring hangers, snubbers, struts, etc.)
    • Coordinate selection, location, and support loads with Civil/Structural group
    • Review and sign-off piping isometrics considering flexibility and supporting
    • Perform and support analyses of other mechanical components and structures based on the team's need
  • Engineering Documentation & Analysis: Prepare high quality, error-free engineering documents for commercial nuclear facilities (e.g., drawings, sketches, instructions, inputs, calculations, analyses, evaluations) according to and bounded by industry codes, standards and regulations to support client engineering needs. Generate engineering-related documents in accordance with client, ENERCON, and regulatory requirements, adhering to client and ENERCON procedures, processes, specifications and other company or project directives
  • Regulatory Compliance & Technical Standards: Maintain up-to-date relevant knowledge of industry codes, standards, safety culture, and design techniques suitable to the nuclear industry
  • Quality Assurance & Peer Review: Provide peer and technical reviews of engineering designs and engineering-related documentation produced by others. Interface with cross-functional teams and departments necessary to complete assigned activities
  • Client Relations & Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Build strong relationships with clients through professional interactions and communications, and through the development of quality engineering products. Engage customers to define scope, review results, and discuss technical risks. Consult with other disciplines to ensure design compatibility across engineering functions, engineering designs and engineering-related documentation produced by others
  • Leadership & Project Oversight: Provide leadership and technical direction to personnel and projects. Coach and mentor less experienced engineers to increase overall knowledge while assuring a successful outcome. Support procurement and subcontract activities, as needed. Liaise with customers, in partnership with engineering leadership and project management. Improve areas of project execution and department management through lean methodology and Design to Cost principles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of mechanical piping systems, and pipe stress analysis
  • Must demonstrate significant ASME Section III Class 1 Fatigue design experience
  • Experience with a combination of the following software for pipe stress analysis:
    • AutoPIPE (preferred)
    • ME 101
    • Peps PIPESTRESS (preferred)
    • Caesar II
    • Tpipe
    • NuPipe
    • SuperPipe
    • ADL Pipe
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite
  • Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to be an individual contributor, work effectively in teams, and provide leadership\mentoring to junior engineers
  • Nuclear Industry knowledge / experience
  • Experience with preparing and reviewing ASME B&PV Section III analysis including subsections NB, NC/ND and NF
  • Demonstrate experience with ASME Section III, NQA-1, and NRC regulations
  • Strong communication skills and capable of articulating specific technical topics or assignments
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required
  • A self-starter willing to take initiative and ability to work effectively within a highly collaborative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives, effectively facilitate meetings and provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced coworkers
  • Advanced skills in ANSYS is a plus
  • Must be able to obtain unescorted access to a US Nuclear facility and perform walkdowns
  • Willing and able to travel and support nuclear plant related outages
  • Experience with performing Piping Vibration Evaluation and Analysis
  • Experience with piping layout and isometric generation
  • Experience with reviewing simple structural designs. Experience with preparing complex structural designs a plus
  • Experience with design input for drawing production (i.e., P&IDs and Master Diagrams)
  • Experience with preparing and reviewing equipment specifications and/or material specifications
  • Experience with performing bid evaluations for systems and larger components
  • Experience with writing proposals and developing project budgets, schedules, and project work plans a plus
  • Experience with providing single-discipline input to simple proposals

Compensation Range

USD $150,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
