Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Principal Mining Geotechnical Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to provide senior-level technical leadership and consulting support for mine geotechnics related to site investigations, facility design, mine operations, reclamation, and closure while helping to lead and grow our mining geotechnical practice, with a primary focus on projects in the U.S. and Canada.

What You'll Be Doing:

Technical Leadership and Project Delivery
  • Provide technical direction and leadership for mining geotechnical projects, including facility design, mine operations support, reclamation, and closure activities.
  • Plan, execute, and interpret geotechnical site investigations for mine infrastructure and geo-environmental facilities.
  • Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including:
    • Slope stability analyses
    • Seepage and settlement analyses
  • Lead and review the development of engineering design documents, including reports, drawings, design calculations, and technical specifications.
  • Execute and review civil/environmental engineering tasks for mine waste management and other geo-environmental applications (e.g., tailings, heap leach pads, waste rock storage, and water management facilities).
  • Ensure the application of current industry standards, guidelines, and regulatory requirements in all project work

Business Development and Client Engagement
  • Promote Parsons' mining geotechnical capabilities and contribute to the strategic growth of our global mining business.
  • Build, maintain, and expand relationships with key mining clients, partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Engage directly with clients to understand technical and regulatory challenges associated with mine operation, reclamation, and closure, and develop tailored engineering solutions.
  • Support proposal development, scope definition, and project planning for mining geotechnical opportunities.


Health, Safety, and Quality
  • Champion a strong safety culture and implement behavior-based safety practices to achieve incident-free performance, including zero injuries, property damage, and environmental releases.
  • Promote quality assurance and quality control across all deliverables and field activities.


What Required Skills You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably with a specialization or strong focus in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering, with significant experience on complex and unique mine sites.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Geotechnical site investigations for mining projects
    • Design and/or operation of tailings storage facilities (dams and impoundments)
    • Heap leach pads and waste rock storage facilities
    • Stormwater and surface water control structures
    • Other site/civil works for mining operations and reclamation projects
  • Proven experience conducting slope stability and seepage analyses.
  • Experience using 3D design software for mine earth structures such as waste dumps, ponds, channels, and tailings areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and present high-quality engineering design documents, including reports, drawings, and presentations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Willingness and ability to travel for project work, including to remote mine sites in the U.S. and Canada.
  • Comfortable working in both office and field environments, and in a range of weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.).


What Desired Skills You'll Bring:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Geotechnical, Geological, or Civil Engineering is considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E., P.Eng., or equivalent) designation, or eligibility for registration in relevant jurisdictions, is required or strongly preferred.

Salary Range: $134,100.00 - $241,400.00
