Role description:

Arcadis is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join an established and growing multi-national mining engineering team. As the selected candidate, you will provide technical leadership for projects across the United States (US), Canada, Chile, and other locations. This position can report to any of our Mountain West US offices and offers flexibility through hybrid work arrangements. This position requires approximately 15% travel.

In this position, you will lead geotechnical engineering on surface mining projects, including tailings facilities and open pits. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams Arcadis teams in the U.S. and internationally to develop and deliver sustainable mining solutions that drive environmental and operational improvements. Diverse project opportunities include mine reclamation engineering and other environmental projects such as sediment remediation and water dam design and evaluation. Work will entail a mixture of geotechnical investigations, geotechnical evaluations, feasibility studies, design, and construction quality assurance.

Role accountabilities:

We are seeking a senior leader to join our community and Mining Sector Team, bringing a strong understanding of technical principles and both current and emerging market conditions to support Arcadis' continued growth. In this role, you will serve as Deputy Engineer of Record (EoR) on appropriate projects, with the opportunity to step into the primary EoR role as your experience develops. You will contribute to business development efforts by identifying and pursuing growth opportunities with both existing and prospective clients, while representing Arcadis externally through clear, professional communication. Internally, you will provide leadership to engineering project teams by defining project goals and constraints, managing external inputs, and applying sound judgment to deliver effective technical solutions. This position also involves performing geotechnical engineering reviews, providing critical input on key projects, and leveraging your understanding of engineering principles and mine operations to help solve complex challenges for our clients.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required:
  • B.S. degree in civil or geotechnical engineering or closely related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Minimum 12 years of experience

Preferred technical proficiencies
  • Design and evaluate siting solutions for mine tailings and water dams
  • Perform highwall investigations and slope stability analyse
  • Lead and support Dam Safety Reviews for compliance and risk mitigatio
  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations, including monitoring program
  • Apply soft-ground mechanics and ground stabilization technique
  • Communicate effectively in technical documentation and client-facing setting
  • Advanced proficiency in geotechnical modeling (GeoStudio, RocScience, FLAC, PLAXIS) and working knowledge of Civil 3D, ArcMap, or similar tools; postgraduate degree preferred;
  • Spanish a plus

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $122,760- $204,600.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
