Full Job Description
As a Principal Expeditor, you will lead the expediting function on major capital projects, ensuring critical materials and equipment are delivered in alignment with project schedules. You will provide leadership to a team of expeditors while partnering with suppliers, procurement, project management, engineering, logistics, and construction teams to proactively manage supplier performance, mitigate delivery risks, and support successful project execution. Your leadership, commercial awareness, and ability to influence outcomes will play an important role in delivering certainty for our customers. Purpose of the Role Play an integral role in leading project expediting activities that keep complex projects moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You will oversee supplier performance, provide strategic direction to the expediting team, and ensure timely communication of supplier progress, risks, and mitigation plans. By fostering strong supplier relationships and driving accountability, you will help ensure purchase order commitments are achieved while supporting the successful delivery of project objectives. Core Responsibilities You will be responsible for: - Leading all expediting activities for one or more major projects or programs from project initiation through completion. - Managing, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to a team of expeditors, ensuring consistent execution of expediting processes and best practices. - Establishing project expediting strategies, priorities, and work plans that align with overall project execution objectives. - Monitoring supplier performance against contractual delivery commitments, manufacturing schedules, and project milestones. - Identifying delivery risks, supply chain constraints, and commercial issues early while developing practical mitigation and recovery plans. - Providing accurate and timely reporting on supplier performance, critical equipment status, and expediting activities to project leadership and stakeholders. - Building collaborative relationships with suppliers to improve communication, resolve issues, and drive on-time delivery performance. - Partnering with procurement, engineering, logistics, quality, construction, and project controls teams to support integrated project execution. - Participating in supplier meetings, progress reviews, inspections, and performance assessments as required. - Ensuring expediting activities comply with contractual obligations, company procedures, project requirements, and applicable industry standards. - Reviewing and analyzing supplier data to identify trends, recommend improvements, and support informed project decisions. - Managing priorities across multiple suppliers and work packages while maintaining focus on critical path equipment and materials. - Supporting project supply management strategies and advising project leadership on supply chain risks and opportunities. - Driving continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen expediting processes, supplier performance, reporting, and team effectiveness. - Supporting the development of new systems, tools, and work processes that improve operational efficiency across the expediting function. What you'll bring to the role You are an experienced supply chain professional with a proven ability to lead teams, build strong supplier relationships, and manage complex project delivery challenges. You bring a strategic mindset, strong commercial awareness, and the ability to influence stakeholders while maintaining a focus on delivering successful project outcomes. You will also bring: - A university degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or another related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience. - Typically 10 or more years of experience in expediting, procurement, supply chain, project delivery, or a related discipline, including leadership or supervisory experience. - Demonstrated experience leading expediting activities on large engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) projects within the energy, chemicals, resources, industrial, or infrastructure sectors. - Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing high-performing teams in a collaborative project environment. - Advanced knowledge of supplier management, procurement processes, manufacturing schedules, logistics coordination, and delivery planning. - Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify project risks, evaluate impacts, and implement effective mitigation strategies. - Excellent leadership, decision-making, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across complex projects. - Exceptional communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence suppliers, project teams, and senior leadership. - Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience interpreting supplier performance metrics and project data. - Experience developing and implementing project supply management and expediting strategies. - Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and enterprise systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP platforms. - Advanced understanding of expediting systems, reporting tools, and supply chain processes, with the ability to improve workflows and support continuous improvement initiatives. - The ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, resolve conflict effectively, and lead teams through changing project priorities.
