About the Role

We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior Principal Engineer to lead complex engineering initiatives, drive innovation, and guide technical strategy across our company. This role requires a visionary engineer with deep expertise, proven leadership, and a passion for advancing product design, development, and performance.

As a Senior Principal Engineer, you will apply advanced engineering principles to create new products, improve existing designs, and influence the future direction of technology within our business. You will also serve as a mentor, technical leader, and trusted advisor across multiple engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

In this senior-level role, you will:

Product & Technology Leadership
  • Lead large-scale product development, research projects, and major design initiatives.
  • Develop concepts, layouts, parameters, and specifications for new products and redesigns.
  • Apply advanced engineering theory to product testing, evaluation, and performance optimization.
  • Create and supervise the design of parts, subassemblies, and final assemblies.
  • Initiate and evaluate new product ideas, assessing technological feasibility, life cycle, and cost.

Project & Cross-Functional Leadership
  • Develop and manage detailed project plans for small-to-large engineering projects.
  • Monitor progress of designers, drafters, and engineering teams to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate closely with Operations, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and Field Service.
  • Represent the engineering function on key business initiatives and product line activities.

Engineering Excellence & Innovation
  • Conduct feasibility studies and prepare cost estimates for new designs and redesigns.
  • Conducts required analyses to verify compliance with product performance and reliability requirements.
  • Maintain system and component commonality across product lines.
  • Troubleshoot complex product issues and support field service teams with warranty and performance investigations.
  • Develop, revise, and maintain engineering standards, specifications, and work instructions.

Mentorship & Knowledge Transfer
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Engineer I and Engineer II team members.
  • Deliver training in your area of expertise to other departments.
  • Serve as a technical resource and thought leader for the broader engineering organization.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering discipline from an accredited university.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience with a proven record of successful project completion.
  • Strong expertise in engineering theories, principles, and multidisciplinary application.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex engineering projects from concept to implementation.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities with proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and design evaluation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence technical direction.

Design Experience Required
  • Digital and Analog circuits
  • Embedded controllers
  • UARTs/RS232, RS485, I2C, ethernet interfaces
  • High power Class D amplifiers
  • Switch Mode Power Supplies
  • Battery Chargers

Preferred
  • Master's degree in engineering or related field.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding engineering teams.
  • Background in product lifecycle development, cost reduction initiatives, or field performance analysis.
  • VHF/UHF Radio receiver design
  • DTMF, MSK, POCSAG, Analog radio modems and loT interfaces
  • VOIP CODECs
