TITLE: Principal Engineer, Project Engineering
EMPLOYER: AES Clean Energy Services, LLC
LOCATION: Louisville, CO (Telecommuting permitted, 25% travel required for site visits, inspections, and meetings)
DUTIES: Manage and lead the hydropower, PV and BESS review of design sets from EPC’s and vendors, managing internal engineers and consultants. Manage and lead reviews on transient analyses, flow models and design studies provided by EPC’s and consultants. Represent company at factory acceptance tests for pump, turbine and hydropower related equipment, holding vendors accountable for quality and safety standards. Author owner’s technical requirements and ensure compliance with EPC’s design documentation and construction drawings. Collaborate with Project Manager on schedule, scope and budget related to hydropower specific activities. Act as point of contact for external design firms and owner’s engineers. Respond to EPC requests for information on exceptions related to the hydropower plants, PV and BESS. Develop and review test plans. Collaboratively work with team to provide input on equipment and spares, balancing cost and long-term O&M decisions. Manage and coordinate internal resources to perform QA/QC field inspections, track non-conformities and punch list development. Manage and coordinate erection tests, pre-commissioning tests (dry-tests) and commissioning tests (wet tests) of the hydropower scope through site team, independent consultants and independent engineering firms. Establish and communicate commissioning steps to project team members to develop schedules. Communicate and lead efforts to solve problems with equipment that may occur during start-up. Manage contractors on-site to ensure quality throughout construction phase. Develop detailed reports and test documents for financing and Independent Engineering. Technical project due diligence and project engineering design review. Equipment reviews and selection. Engineering Procurement and Construction contract support. Hydropower Related project scope of work and design standards development. Improve and develop processes for the execution of safe, quality and high-performance projects.
REQUIREMENTS: Job requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (any field), or a related field and seven (7) Years of experience in development of renewable energy projects (hydropower) and construction of large energy infrastructure projects.
Job requires seven (7) years of experience in each of the following:
- Hydropower engineering including electromechanical layout and powerhouse design; hydraulic turbine selection, sizing and characterization; hydro generator sizing and characterization; main inlet valve sizing and characterization; Mechanical BOP design (HVAC, fire protection); hydraulic transient analysis.
- Hydropower energy production forecast for run-of river hydropower plants, open-loop pumped storage hydropower plants and closed-loop pumped-storage hydropower plants.
- Pelton turbine engineering and model testing.
- Penstock engineering.
- Hydromechanical equipment engineering (hydraulic gates, trash racks).
- Reviewing QA/QC plans for hydraulic turbines, generators, main inlet valves, mechanical BOP, applicable to factory inspections and site tests.
Job requires two (2) years of experience in each of the following:
- Performance testing of hydraulic turbines and salient pole synchronous generators according to IEC standards.
- Erection and commissioning of hydropower plants, including site walkdowns, erection and commissioning testing (dry-tests, wet-tests), punch list development.
SALARY: The expected salary for this position, at commencement of employment, is between $155,750 and $187,750 /year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position also includes annual bonus.
