We are looking for a Principal Engineer I, App Release Management who can successfully coordinate complex technology releases, drive alignment across cross-functional teams, and ensure high-quality deployments across customer-facing applications and platforms.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technology Product Management, this role is ideal for someone with a strong background in release management, program management, or project management who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys collaborating with teams across North America, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), and other global regions
What You'll Be DoingIn this role, you will drive release execution, helping teams bring innovative digital experiences to market with quality, predictability, and operational excellence. Success means building strong partnerships across teams, proactively managing risks, and ensuring releases are delivered smoothly while creating a positive experience for both customers and stakeholders.
- Manage end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of application releases, ensuring successful deployments, operational readiness, and post-release support.
- Partner with product, engineering, quality, operations, security, and business teams to align priorities, schedules, dependencies, and release objectives that support successful business outcomes.
- Proactively identify and mitigate release risks, manage dependencies, track defects, and coordinate resolution activities to maintain delivery commitments and product quality.
- Support mobile application certification activities, testing readiness, change management processes, and App Store and Google Play submissions to enable successful launches.
- Apply Agile delivery practices and release management processes to improve delivery predictability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop release readiness assessments, production performance reporting, and stakeholder communications that support informed decision-making and transparency.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen release governance, enhance team collaboration, and improve the overall delivery lifecycle.
What You Bring- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field that provides a strong foundation in technology delivery and software development.
- 10+ years of experience where you have successfully delivered software, managed releases, led programs, managed projects, or supported complex technology initiatives across multiple stakeholders.
- Experience supporting application releases or complex technology delivery initiatives across mobile, web, cloud, SaaS, enterprise, or other customer-facing technology platforms.
- Experience managing end-to-end technology initiatives, releases, programs, or projects, including planning, deployment, validation, risk management, stakeholder coordination, production support, and issue resolution.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and release management practices that drive quality delivery and operational excellence.
- Experience utilizing Jira, Confluence, Monday.com, or similar platforms for planning, tracking, collaboration, and delivery execution.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and PowerPoint, and experience communicating project status, risks, and outcomes to diverse stakeholder groups.
- A motor vehicle record acceptable by company standards is required for this position.
Added Bonus If You Have- Experience supporting or managing iOS and Android application releases for consumer-facing digital products.
- Experience with App Store, Google Play, mobile certification, approval, compliance, or release governance processes.
- Experience supporting large-scale enterprise, consumer-facing, connected vehicle, automotive, or OEM digital platforms.
- Experience applying Toyota Business Practices (TBP), JKK, Agile, Scrum, PMP, ITIL, Lean Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience utilizing AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar technologies to improve planning, reporting, operational efficiency, or delivery outcomes.
