Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Engineer Network (III) (26-403) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is the integrating element of the Missile Defense System. It:

  • Enables senior leaders and combatant commanders to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically
  • Provides a common operational picture so teams can collectively see the battle develop.
  • Dynamically manages designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives
  • Supports layered missile defense capabilities and optimized responses to threats of all ranges and across all phases of flight
  • Acts as a force multiplier, globally and regionally networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems
  • Is integral to all system ground and flight tests that verify and exercise current and future missile defense system capabilities

As a Network Engineer III on C2BMC, your work directly supports this mission and has a real impact on national defense.

This position is based on-site at a Colorado Springs facility, with regular travel to operational locations, including Schriever Space Force Base, Alaska, Guam, Europe, and other sites, to support network deployments and upgrades.

Essential Functions:

As a Network Development Engineer on the C2BMC program, you will:

  • Serve as a primary Network Engineer supporting buildout and deployments to the operational environment
  • Work within an Agile Scrum team, planning and executing work based on customer requirements and program contractual commitments
  • Plan, deploy, integrate, and test network upgrades to C2BMC operational sites
  • Lead and perform network installations at remote locations, independently troubleshoot complex issues, and provide clear status updates to program and customer stakeholders

This role is ideal for a midlevel engineer who enjoys handson work, operational impact, and frequent collaboration with a highly skilled, missionfocused team.

Basic Qualifications:

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • A Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Masters degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must have a current, active Government-Issued 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (such as Security+ CE, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.) at the time of application, which is required to start. The candidate is responsible for maintaining their 8140 certifications throughout the entire contract period
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Top Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start

Networking Certification:

  • Current CCNA or JNCIA certification

Technical Expertise:

  • Proven midlevel network engineering experience with network design, development, and testing methodologies
  • Strong understanding of the OSI Model, TCP/IP, and routing protocols BGP and OSPF
  • Demonstrated network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills
  • Handson firewall experience, particularly Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto platforms
  • Experience with UDP multicast, SONET, MSPP, VLANs, GRE tunnels, and TCP/IP network designs
  • Handson experience with multivendor switching and routing (Juniper, Cisco), WAN optimizers, TACLANEs, and optical transport equipment
  • Strong communication skills, including technical writing and presentation abilities, with proficiency using Microsoft Office, especially PowerPoint and Visio
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a collaborative, Agile environment, working closely with crossfunctional teams
  • Understanding of standard DoD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts

Travel:

  • Ability and willingness to travel to alternate work locations (e.g., Schriever SFB, Alaska, Guam, Europe) to support deployments and onsite activities as required by the program

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will also bring:

  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as NFV, SDWAN, VMware, VMware Cloud Foundation, NSX, vSAN, and Aria (Desired)
  • Experience with network automation using Ansible (Desired).
  • Prior C2BMC experience or direct exposure to missile defense or commandandcontrol environments (Desired)

Primary Level Salary Range: $94,200.00 - $141,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
