JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

EVALUATION: Evaluated by Superintendent

WORK YEAR: 12 months (260 workdays)

SALARY: $120,000

PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:

The Principal provides leadership management and supervisory skills that promote learning opportunities for all students. They are stewards of student learning, which includes educating the whole child, staff, and parental learning. They have a laser focus on data and are conveyors of best practices, they have a set of beliefs and skill sets that guide the school's day-to-day operations to ensure a healthy, safe, and conducive environment. Student learning is always the central focus of every decision made.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in School Administration from an accredited University
  • Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Administrative Endorsement and have completed the required evaluator training for the position of principal.
  • The Principal must have five years of successful teaching experience and must have served as an assistant principal for at least two years. Must be of good character; have the experience and skills to work effectively with staff, the district leadership team, students, parents, and the community.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To use leadership and administrative skills in promoting the maximum educational development of each middle school student.
  • Organize data to analyze the information to plan student learning experiences.
  • Initiate long and short-range goals for school improvement.
  • Conduct crucial conversations based on student performance data to enhance student learning
  • Provide leadership to develop school goals and objectives.
  • Implement and enforce district policies, decisions, and regulations.
  • Appoint an assistant principal to assume leadership in the principal's absence.
  • Evaluate all staff and reports in writing to the Superintendent.
  • Conduct frequent conferences with new staff to assure knowledge of school policies and operations.
  • Conduct instructional walk-throughs in reading and math once per week.
  • Analyze and share walkthrough data with teachers weekly to improve teaching and learning.
  • Assume leadership in interpretation and decision-making regarding student discipline.
  • Recommend to the Superintendent the appointment, retention, and assignment of all assigned personnel.
  • Upgrade professional skills through involvement in staff development, professional associations, and reading professional articles.
  • Register and place students in class by individual student instructional needs.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor outcomes of the school improvement plan and student achievement data.
  • Create a safe, clean, and orderly learning environment by properly managing the school facility.
  • Collaborate with staff to achieve school improvement plan targets.
  • Utilize current technologies to support leadership and management functions.
  • Manage school-based budgets and align resources to improve teaching and learning.
  • Works with and engages staff in a shared vision for effective teaching and learning implementing standards-based curriculum relevant to student needs and interests, research-based effective practice, academic rigor, and high expectations for student learning.
  • Participate, develop, and implement scope and sequence in reading, math, and science.
  • Implement data-guided instruction in reading and math.
  • Use disaggregated data and make informed decisions.,
  • Select and retain teachers that maximize student learning.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and hold teachers accountable.
  • Promote the use of technology to enhance student learning.
  • Ensure professional learning for all teachers that enhance student learning.
  • Create, develop, and sustain relationships that result in active student engagement in the learning process.
  • Utilize meaningful feedback from students, staff, and community stakeholders in the evaluation of school programs and policies.
  • Proactively engages families to support student learning.
  • Demonstrate and understand the change process.
  • Treat all staff and people fairly with dignity and respect.
  • Protects the rights and confidentiality of all students.
  • Creates a culturally responsive climate.
