Step into a pivotal technical leadership role as the OIT Principal Salesforce Developer, where you will shape the architectural vision, engineering standards, and strategic execution for the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) Salesforce portfolio. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this role offers you a dynamic blend of strategic leadership and hands-on execution across the full Salesforce SDLC. As OIT's primary technical and architectural resource, you will bridge the gap between high-level strategies, agency stakeholders, and cross-functional project teams to solve CDEC's most complex Salesforce challenges.
Essential Functions:
  • Strategic Leadership and Governance: Collaborate with OIT leadership to guide strategic planning, system modernization, compliance, and technology roadmaps. Act as a trusted advisor to agency stakeholders and executive leadership. Provide insight on AI use and governance with Salesforce development.
  • Architecture and SDLC Execution: Lead the design and delivery of secure, scalable Salesforce solutions. Hands-on duties span requirements gathering, secure coding standards, unit/integration testing, and solution documentation.
  • Release Management and Deployments: Drive configuration management and version control for Salesforce metadata. Oversee deployment pipelines, release strategies, and environment alignment.
  • Modernization and Lifecycle Management: Lead efforts to refactor technical debt, sunset obsolete components (e.g., migrating legacy automations and Visualforce to modern Flow and LWC), and align architecture with enterprise standards.
  • Operational Support and Maintenance: Oversee tier-3 Salesforce support, ranging from complex bug resolution to major feature enhancements and application rollouts.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner effectively across matrixed teams, mentor Senior Salesforce Developers, lead remediation efforts, and navigate organizational protocols to align engineering resources.
  • Qualifications and Scope: Bring all core capabilities of a Senior Salesforce Developer, paired with proven architectural experience in enterprise-level strategic planning and cross-departmental alignment.

The salary analysis considers relevant experience, education, certifications, and state seniority as compared to others doing substantially similar work. This is a skills-based job announcement. The required minimum qualifications and/or education (if substituting for the proven experience, knowledge, and skills), are as follows:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years in a Salesforce Developer or Architect role.
  • Experience applying digital accessibility regulations and standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) to business processes, content, tools, and/or documents, with the ability to provide specific examples of accessibility improvements made.

Substitutions:

  • Additional appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
  • Training or Certification related to the work assigned to the position will be assigned credit towards substitution for experience and/or education, but cannot completely substitute for these qualifications.
  • If the minimum qualifications include a degree requirement, additional appropriate paid or unpaid experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • The Salesforce Platform Developer II certification or at least two Salesforce Architect certifications (e.g., Platform Integration Architect, Platform Data Architect, Platform Sharing and Visibility Architect).
  • (Preferred) Experience working in a Salesforce Public Sector Solutions (PSS)/Agentforce Public Sector org is highly desirable.


Conditions of Employment:
OIT employees must comply with any screening procedures in place at state agency locations where they might perform work.

This position may require travel within the specified geographic area, and to locations across the state as needed.
