The Antenna Technologies team resides in the Defense Missions Technology group in Defense & Aerospace (D&A) business unit. The Antenna Technologies team develops phased array solutions for our customers that meet their mission requirements. You will work with an incredible antenna design team and test professionals developing state-of-the-art products for Satellite Communications, Line of Sight Communications, and A&D (including Radar) markets.
Position Summary
Qorvo's Antenna Technologies team is seeking a Principal Firmware & Electrical Design Engineer to design, build, test, and maintain embedded controller hardware and firmware for phased array reference designs and array products, with support for power supply and digital control circuitry.
Responsibilities
A candidate in this position will be trained and expected to perform the following duties shortly after joining the antenna team:
• Architect active IC control logic and develop hardware for phased array systems.
• Write embedded control firmware for phased array operation, including near real-time beamsteering updates, IC polling, temperature readings, calibration, and error monitoring.
• Build SPI digital communication links between microcontrollers and peripherals.
• Create Interface Control Documents (ICDs) to connect external systems, including GPS and INS systems, and write firmware to transfer data across these interfaces.
• Lead debugging and test verification of high-speed digital systems and verify functionality of high-speed interfaces on designs.
A candidate in this position will be trained and expected to perform the following duties 1-2 years after joining the antenna team:
• Develop specifications and resource requirements for digital, firmware, and embedded software designs.
• Develop processes for software/firmware development, management and maintenance for deployed products
• Expand ownership of high-speed digital electronics, DC power supply designs, embedded processor systems, and signal and power integrity improvements for digital/FPGA designs.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree (BSEE or equivalent) with minimum of 5 years overall experience preferable.
• Experience with embedded controller testing and troubleshooting, analog/digital circuit design, power management, schematic capture, PCB layout, and BOM tools.
• Experience with SPI, I2C, UART, and system-level ICDs; familiarity with GPS receivers, INS sensors, and navigation data.
• Strong circuit design, documentation, and implementation experience with high-speed digital electronics, DC power supply designs, and embedded processor systems.
• Experience in signal and power integrity analysis of digital/FPGA designs and ability to work in a fast-paced environment on aggressive schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
• Familiarity with phased array beamsteering algorithms and array math implemented in firmware is a strong preference.
• Experience in low-voltage power supply/regulation design, with experience related to RF circuit design.
• Experience with design, analysis, and layout of PCBs with high-speed digital line rates of 1+ Gb/s.
• Experience developing software in python and familiarity with object oriented programming.
• Digital system partitioning and function implementation in FPGAs and simulation.
Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $148,100 - $192,500 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
