Job Description:


Caterpillar is investing in our digital future, and we’re looking for a Principal Data Architect within the Cat Digital Helios team to help maximize the value of Caterpillar’s digital platform.  Cat Digital is focused on accelerating services and parts growth by providing digital solutions through data analytics, innovation and customer-focused solutions.  This role is a technical resource leveraging business requirements to solution reusable business-ready datasets to support applications, analytics, and business intelligence use cases across Cat Digital and the enterprise.

What You Will Do:

  • Acts as team lead by providing technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members across organization
  • Lead complex projects spanning across multiple system components
  • Work directly on complex problems and provide solutions aligned with overall objectives of Cat Digital.
  • Understand and evaluate business requirements that impact the data of Caterpillar enterprise, dealership partners, and other internal and external customers.
  • Liaises with data creators to support project planning, training, guidance on standards, and the efficient creation/maintenance of high-quality data
  • Contributes to policies, procedures, and standards as well as technical requirements
  • Create data management strategy and define continuous improvement goals of data quality, governance and processes.
  • Lead communication across various lines of businesses and technology partners to constantly monitor, collect, review, and roadmap business data requirements, and related technology solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with the latest data standards supported by the company, and brand, legal, information security (data security and privacy compliance).
  • Maintain knowledge of functional technology of the data management systems as they change with upgrades and new releases.
  • Maintain existing data quality scorecard measurements, executing of scorecards, resolving exceptions with data owners and source systems
  • Accountable todesign robust, scalable database and data solutions supporting applications, analytics, and business intelligence.
  • Document data models for domains to be deployed including a logical data model, candidate source lists, and canonical formats.
  • Provide guidance and expertise on identifying source systems, developing data object pipeline specifications, metadata policies, as well as alignment of data governance efforts.

  • Value Realization: Knowledge of value realization methods; ability to plan, execute, monitor and manage business activities and resources to determine and achieve the actual value from a business initiative as estimated in an associated business case.
  • Communicating Complex Concepts: Knowledge of effective presentation tools and techniques to ensure clear understanding; ability to use summarization and simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple, clear language appropriate to the audience.
  • Agile Development: Knowledge of agile methodologies and the agile development lifecycle; ability to utilize formal agile methodologies, disciplines, practices and techniques for the delivery of new and enhanced applications.
  • Cloud Computing: Knowledge of cloud-based solutions and their applications; ability to design, implement, and manage cloud-based solutions to meet business needs and improve operational efficiency.
  • Database Design (Physical): Knowledge of database systems; ability to establish a data model for designing an organization's database that runs effectively and efficiently for better business outcome.
  • ETL Process: Knowledge of the extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) process; ability to develop a database through the ETL process.
  • Information Management: Knowledge of an organization's existing and planned Information Architecture and Information Management (IM) methodology; ability to collect and manage information from different sources, and distribute this information to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Modeling: Data, Process, Events, Objects: Knowledge of data, process and events; ability to use tools and techniques for analyzing and documenting logical relationships among data, processes or events.

  • A bachelors degree or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience in data management (data design, data quality, metadata, governance, etc.)
  • Proven demonstrated experience leading data management or software engineering projects.
  • Understanding of information management concepts such as controlled vocabulary, authority control, data modeling, and schema design.
  • Experience in creating conceptual and logical data models
  • Software development experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, Javascript, C++, Scala, etc is preferred

Summary Pay Range:

$147,760.00 - $221,640.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location,job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
