Full Job Description
As a Social Services Data Engineering Lead for the Indiana EDW program, you will play a critical role in advancing the data engineering capabilities that support FSSA's Medicaid analytics, reporting, and operational decision-making needs. Sitting at the intersection of Indiana EDW delivery and the Data Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE), you will translate CoE standards, reusable engineering patterns, and modernization practices into practical solutions that improve platform reliability, scalability, and maintainability. You will contribute to the continued evolution of the Indiana EDW by strengthening delivery discipline, promoting consistent engineering practices, and supporting data solutions that enable accurate, timely, and trusted information for state stakeholders, program teams, and downstream reporting consumers.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, implementation, and operational support of scalable data engineering solutions for Medicaid and Social Services data platforms
  • Provide technical leadership for data ingestion, transformation, integration, and orchestration using Informatica, Teradata, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, SQL, Python, and related cloud data technologies
  • Translate business and technical requirements into robust data pipeline designs, reusable frameworks, and implementation plans supporting analytics, reporting, and operational needs
  • Lead and mentor data engineers and developers by providing architectural guidance, hands-on technical direction, code reviews, and best-practice standards
  • Drive end-to-end data engineering delivery, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support
  • Establish and enforce data engineering standards, reusable patterns, automation practices, documentation, and governance controls across projects and teams
  • Implement data quality, validation, reconciliation, and audit controls to ensure data accuracy, completeness, integrity, and compliance for downstream analytics and reporting
  • Partner with data architects, DBAs, data modelers, business stakeholders, vendors, and application teams to deliver reliable cloud-based enterprise data warehouse solutions
  • Optimize pipeline performance, cost, reliability, and observability through effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational improvement practices
  • Support the Data Engineering Center of Excellence roadmap by contributing reusable accelerators, modernization strategies, delivery best practices, and long-term platform capabilities

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data integration, enterprise data warehousing, or cloud data platform delivery
  • 4+ years of experience leading end-to-end data engineering delivery, including requirements analysis, solution design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience designing and supporting data ingestion, transformation, integration, and orchestration solutions using Informatica, Teradata, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, SQL, or Python
  • 3+ years of experience working with Medicaid and Social Services data domains (e.g., eligibility, enrollment, claims, encounters, provider, member, reference, financial, and program-related data)
  • 3+ years of experience implementing data quality, reconciliation, validation, audit, and operational controls to ensure accuracy, completeness, integrity, and reliability of enterprise reporting data
  • 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring data engineers, providing technical direction, and conducting code reviews
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with data architects, DBAs, data modelers, vendors, business stakeholders, application teams, and reporting teams to deliver enterprise data warehouse solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting Medicaid, Managed Care, Social Services, or state health and human services data platforms within an enterprise data warehouse environment
  • Familiarity with Indiana EDW, FSSA reporting needs, Medicaid program operations, MCE data, encounter processing, provider/member data, eligibility data, and downstream reporting use cases
  • Experience with data platform modernization, cloud migration, reusable data engineering frameworks, metadata-driven processing, and delivery standards within a Data Engineering Center of Excellence
  • Experience with scripting or analytical languages such as T-SQL, SAS, Python, PowerShell, or R to support data transformation, automation, reconciliation, and operational support activities
  • Familiarity with healthcare and Medicaid data standards (EDI, X12, HL7, FHIR, ICD-10, CPT, NPI, taxonomy, HIPAA) and AI/machine learning use cases leveraging enterprise data
