We are seeking a
Principal Cryogenic System Designer in ourBroomfield, CO, location.
Key Responsibilities:- Define the technical architecture and product roadmap for cryogenic systems & hardware supporting Quantinuum's next-generation quantum computing platforms.
- Lead the design, analysis, prototyping, testing, and validation of cryogenic systems and subsystems, guiding products from initial concept through production deployment.
- Serve as the technical authority for cryogenic system design, making key engineering tradeoffs involving thermal performance, vibration, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and scalability.
- Drive hands-on experimental development efforts, including prototype builds, test campaigns, root-cause investigations, and performance characterization to mature new technologies and product concepts.
- Lead cross-functional teams of engineers, physicists, technicians, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to successfully develop and deliver cryogenic products.
- Define and execute product industrialization strategies, including manufacturing process development, supplier engagement, outsourcing decisions, and production scale-up.
- Establish engineering standards, design methodologies, and best practices to improve product quality, technical execution, and development efficiency across the cryogenic engineering organization.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers while supporting long-term technology strategy, product roadmaps, and organizational growth.
- Partner with vendors to establish strategic deliverables and aid in manufacturing planning to meet production rates.
- Ability to travel up to 25%
YOU MUST HAVE:- Bachelor's Degree minimum
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in a high-technology R&D and/or low volume, high complexity manufacturing environment
- Minimum 3+ years of experience designing or building cryogenic equipment
- Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person. defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
WE VALUE:- Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Demonstrated expertise in cryogenic system design, thermal management, heat transfer, vacuum systems, and precision mechanical engineering.
- Experience leading complex hardware programs from concept development through product deployment and production scale-up.
- Experience designing, building, and operating cryogenic test systems, laboratory experiments, and engineering prototypes.
- Experience working with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to transition products from development into scalable production.
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), engineering change management, and product lifecycle management.
- Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary technical teams and influencing technical direction across organizations.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with a track record of solving challenging technical problems and delivering innovative products.
$192,000 - $240,000 a year
Compensation & Benefits:Incentive Eligible - Range posted is inclusive of bonus target
The pay range for this role is $192,000 - $240,000 annually. Actual compensation within this range may vary based on the candidate's skills, educational background, professional experience, and unique qualifications for the role.
