RequirementsOverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced
Principal Structural Engineer to join our team in South Florida. In this role, you will leverage your technical expertise to evaluate existing buildings and develop innovative solutions to complex structural challenges.
You'll work on a diverse portfolio of projects spanning residential, multi-family, and commercial structures, with a strong focus on damage assessment and repair related to fire, wind, flood, and impact events. This role also includes adaptive reuse projects and enhancements to existing facilities to support evolving occupancy needs, equipment upgrades, and modernization efforts.
Additional opportunities may include structural design for commercial, retail, industrial, and hospitality developments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare as-built drawings for existing structures
- Perform structural evaluations of existing and, at times, damaged buildings
- Develop drawings and specifications in compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards
- Research historical and current building codes and identify required upgrades
- Conduct field assessments, including work on ladders, lifts, scaffolding, rooftops, and in confined spaces
- Investigate structural conditions and determine repair strategies for damaged or underperforming systems
- Complete design work for upgrades, maintenance, and restoration of structures
- Lead project teams and ensure successful delivery of scope, schedule, and budget
- Partner with Business Development by providing technical expertise and participating in client meetings
- Produce and review technical deliverables including reports, bid documents, and construction documentation
- Perform additional duties as needed
Required Skills & Competencies- Strong knowledge of structural systems across residential and commercial construction
- Expertise in load calculations, performance criteria, and material/member selection
- Excellent technical writing and reporting skills
- Proven ability to manage budgets, scopes, and project timelines
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage clients, colleagues, and stakeholders
- Experience leading teams and managing projects with a focus on QA/QC
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs under pressure
- Skilled in preparing condition reports, repair designs, and construction documentation
- Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships
- Self-motivated with strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required)
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) preferred
- 15+ years of structural design experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required; BIM experience is a plus
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
Work Environment & Requirements- Physical Demands: Standard (includes fieldwork activities)

The Salary Range for this position is $150,000 - $195,000 and is dependent on education, experience, location and certifications/licensure. PHYSICAL DEMANDS, OVERTIME, AND TRAVELPhysical Demands - Work will be performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., Client's office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). Employee is frequently required to stand, sit, climb ladders, bend, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employee may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employee must be attentive, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking, and interacting with clients, preparing drawings and written reports. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
Overtime - This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with one hour for lunch. There will be periods where overtime will be required, which the employee will need to comply with in order to meet the demands of the position.
