Full Job Description
As part of SLR Consulting's Acoustics team, you will help clients make smart, sustainable decisions when it comes to managing sound and vibration. We work across a diverse range of sectors and acoustic disciplines, including environmental acoustics, architectural and building acoustics, industrial acoustics, transportation noise, and water and underwater acoustics.

We are looking for an experienced Principal Acoustics Consultant to join our growing team. This is a senior technical and client-facing position for an acoustics professional who can bring deep subject-matter expertise, lead complex projects, develop client relationships, and help grow our acoustics practice.

We are open to candidates from all areas of acoustics. Your background may be in environmental noise, architectural acoustics, building acoustics, industrial noise and vibration, transportation acoustics, underwater acoustics, marine acoustics, or another specialized area of acoustics. We are particularly interested in professionals who bring strong technical expertise and the ability to apply their knowledge to complex client challenges.

This role can be based out of any of our U.S. office locations, with Denver, CO being a key location for this opportunity. SLR offers flexibility while providing access to technical experts, mentorship, team collaboration, and a diverse portfolio of projects.

As our Principal Acoustics Consultant, you will serve as a senior technical resource and trusted advisor to clients while contributing to the growth and development of SLR's acoustics practice.

You will have the opportunity to work across a broad range of acoustics projects and collaborate with engineers, scientists, planners, architects, environmental specialists, and other technical professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and provide technical oversight on complex acoustics and noise projects across one or more areas of specialization, including environmental, architectural, industrial, transportation, marine/water, underwater acoustics, or related disciplines.
  • Serve as a technical subject-matter expert and provide guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level acoustics professionals.
  • Manage complex projects from proposal through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client communication.
  • Develop technical approaches, methodologies, reports, assessments, specifications, drawings, and other project deliverables.
  • Conduct and/or oversee acoustic modeling, noise assessments, field measurements, data analysis, and technical evaluations appropriate to your area of expertise.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, architects, engineers, contractors, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships and act as a trusted technical advisor.
  • Identify opportunities with existing and prospective clients and contribute to business development activities.
  • Prepare proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and presentations.
  • Represent SLR at client meetings, industry events, conferences, and technical forums.
  • Collaborate with SLR professionals across environmental, engineering, sustainability, and advisory disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Contribute to the continued development of SLR's acoustics capabilities, technical standards, tools, and service offerings.
  • Support the recruitment, mentoring, and professional development of acoustics staff.

Qualifications / Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in acoustics, engineering, physics, mathematics, architecture, environmental science, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in acoustics, noise, vibration, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in one or more areas of acoustics.
  • Experience leading complex projects and managing project deliverables, budgets, schedules, and client expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Experience developing proposals, scopes of work, and/or supporting business development.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with acoustic modeling, analysis, measurement, or other relevant technical software.
  • Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to other professionals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience presenting to clients, industry groups, or at technical conferences is an asset.
  • Professional designation, certification, or membership in a relevant professional organization is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites and conduct or oversee field work as required.
  • Valid driver's license.
