About the PositionWe are looking for a Pricing Proposal Specialist, based in our Montréal or Toronto office, to join the dynamic national Pricing team under the leadership of the Director, Strategic Pricing. This mid-level position offers an exciting opportunity to support critical aspects of our firm's pricing program and become part of a highly energized team committed to unparalleled client service and professional excellence.
The Pricing Proposal Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and delivering highly anticipatory and responsive service to our lawyers in developing the qualitative aspects of client-facing fee proposals. Central to this role is the ability to: (i) provide exceptionally strong support service to our internal clients; (ii) develop high-quality, comprehensive and compelling written proposals, estimates and other support materials that articulate the firm's approach to pricing; (iii) coordinate requests from lawyers for fee proposals as they come in; and (iv) assist with other qualitative aspects of the overall Pricing and Project Management function.
Primary Responsibilities- Support the firm's lawyers in developing qualitative aspects of budgets, fee arrangements, cost strategies and solutions, such as scoping, assumptions, differentiated pricing narratives and value articulation
- Develop, write and edit the non-financial sections of pricing proposals, ensuring clarity, consistency and compliance with firm requirements
- Lead the development of tailored robust scoping and assumptions provisions of pricing proposals
- Produce polished, compelling and error-free written materials under tight deadlines and with minimal supervision
- Apply thorough understanding of legal workflows, practice areas and matter types to engage in proactive discussions with lawyers around matter scoping, assumptions, resourcing and workflow design
- Oversee the fee proposal development process, participate in proposal planning, scheduling, coordination and administrative activities
- Manage the fee proposal development lifecycle, including coordinating meetings/calls with key stakeholders to clarify an approach and gather sufficient internal information to customize winning proposals and presentations, prepare work-back schedules and ensure sufficient timelines are in place
- Review, edit and proofread all fee proposal material, ensuring overall accuracy and that materials are comprehensive, persuasive and tailored to the client and opportunity
- Conduct post-fee proposal follow-ups and debriefs to gain insights from outcomes and manage tracking in support of our pricing strategy
- Manage the database of pricing engagements, fee proposals and templates maintained by the Pricing Team, ensuring accurate classification and following up to determine outcomes
- Take a lead role in (i) developing new templates, checklists and cheat sheets and (ii) leveraging technology to streamline the drafting of new fee proposals based on precedents
- Continuously build and strengthen relationships to act as a trusted adviser to stakeholders
Qualifications- Bachelor's or Master's degree in an area such as law, project management, marketing or business; an MBA or law degree is an asset
- 5+ years of experience in a client service role within a law firm, corporate legal department or professional services environment (whether as counsel, paralegal, project manager or business development professional)
- Excellent drafting, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts clearly and concisely
- Knowledge of legal work in various practice areas to support scoping discussions and pricing strategies tailored to matter type and client requirements
- Outstanding interpersonal and client service skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Excellent project and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks, manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise judgment and use logic to resolve complex issues
- Outstanding collaboration skills
- Keen interest in and aptitude for using technology to enhance efficiency
- A high level of comfort with law firm technology, including document management systems and Microsoft Office 365 applications (with advanced Excel skills) Fluency in French, both written and oral, is a significant asset
Salary RangeThe expected starting salary range for this role is $110,000-$120,000. The final offer will be determined based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications.
