Job Summary and Qualifications

Methodist Healthcare System of San Antonio, Ltd., LLP (MHS) is a 50/50 partnership between HCA Healthcare and Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas. The partnership brings together two organizations with a shared commitment to serving the healthcare needs of San Antonio and the surrounding communities.

The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) serves as the senior executive leader of Methodist Healthcare System and is accountable for the overall strategic, operational, financial, clinical, and organizational performance of the System. As the senior leader of this unique partnership, the President and CEO is responsible for advancing the shared interests of MHS and its partners while providing the leadership and stewardship necessary to ensure the System's long-term success.

The successful candidate will embrace the System's Mission Statement, "Serving Humanity to honor God by providing exceptional and cost-effective healthcare, accessible to all," and will demonstrate a personal commitment to advancing this Mission through the System's strategy, culture, leadership, and operations.

The President and CEO provides enterprise leadership across the System, establishing strategic direction, driving execution, strengthening market position, and ensuring the organization has the leadership, capabilities, and resources necessary to achieve its objectives. The President and CEO builds and maintains trusted, transparent relationships with partner leadership and governance stakeholders, effectively balancing organizational priorities, community needs, enterprise expectations, and the long-term interests of the partnership.

The President and CEO leads through the System executive leadership team and hospital Chief Executive Officers, establishing clear expectations and accountability while creating alignment across the System. This is a System-level executive position, distinct from a hospital-level President or Chief Executive Officer role, with responsibility for the collective performance and strategic direction of Methodist Healthcare System.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy and Market Leadership

• Establish and execute the strategic direction for Methodist Healthcare, translating enterprise and partnership priorities into an integrated System strategy and actionable operating plans.
• Drive sustainable growth and strengthen the System's competitive position, market relevance, and ability to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the communities it serves.
• Identify and capitalize on strategic opportunities across hospitals, service lines, ambulatory assets, physician relationships, and other components of the healthcare system.
• Ensure capital, resources, and organizational capabilities are aligned with the System's highest strategic priorities.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of market dynamics, competitive activity, physician trends, consumer needs, and emerging healthcare delivery models to inform strategic decisions.

Operational and Financial Performance
• Maintain overall accountability for System performance, including growth, financial results, operational effectiveness, quality, patient experience, workforce outcomes, and execution of strategic priorities.
• Establish clear performance expectations for hospital and System leadership and ensure disciplined operating mechanisms are in place to monitor results, address performance gaps, and accelerate improvement.
• Drive consistent execution across the System while appropriately balancing enterprise standardization with market and facility needs.
• Ensure effective deployment and execution of company initiatives and operating priorities throughout the System.
• Promote collaboration and integration across hospitals and other assets to maximize System capabilities, eliminate unnecessary variation, and leverage market synergies.

Partnership and Governance Leadership
• Serve as a principal steward of the Methodist Healthcare partnership, developing and sustaining strong, credible relationships with partner leadership and governance stakeholders.
• Ensure partnership considerations are appropriately incorporated into strategic, operational, financial, and capital decisions.
• Facilitate alignment on significant strategic priorities and decisions while effectively navigating differing perspectives and organizational interests.
• Maintain open, transparent, and proactive communication with partnership stakeholders regarding organizational performance, opportunities, risks, and significant business matters.
• Represent Methodist Healthcare with integrity and sound judgment, protecting the reputation, interests, and long-term sustainability of the partnership.
• Ensure governance bodies receive the information, insight, and executive support necessary to fulfill their oversight responsibilities effectively.

Leadership and Talent
• Build and lead a high-performing System executive team capable of operating at an enterprise level and delivering sustained organizational performance.
• Select, develop, and hold hospital Chief Executive Officers and System leaders accountable for results, leadership effectiveness, organizational health, and execution of strategic priorities.
• Ensure the System and its hospitals have the leadership talent, organizational capabilities, and succession pipelines required to meet current and future business needs.
• Create an environment characterized by accountability, collaboration, inclusion, transparency, and high performance.
• Develop executive talent and succession plans for critical leadership roles, ensuring a strong and sustainable leadership pipeline across the System.
• Model the leadership behaviors, ethics, and values expected throughout Methodist Healthcare.

Clinical, Physician, and Community Leadership
• Partner with clinical leadership to ensure the organization delivers high-quality, safe, patient-centered care and continuously improves clinical outcomes and patient experience.
• Strengthen physician alignment and engagement and ensure physician strategy supports growth, service-line development, access, quality, and long-term market objectives.
• Provide executive leadership for service-line strategy and development, leveraging capabilities and synergies across the System.
• Serve as a visible senior representative of Methodist Healthcare with physicians, community leaders, business partners, civic organizations, and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure Methodist Healthcare remains responsive to the healthcare needs of the communities it serves and maintains its position as a trusted healthcare leader in the market.

Enterprise Leadership
• Effectively represent the System within the broader HCA Healthcare enterprise and ensure alignment with company strategy, standards, policies, and performance expectations.
• Build productive relationships across enterprise functions and leverage enterprise resources and capabilities to advance System priorities.
• Translate enterprise initiatives into effective System execution while providing appropriate insight regarding local market conditions, partnership considerations, and business implications.
• Anticipate and manage significant organizational, operational, reputational, regulatory, and strategic risks affecting the System.

Qualifications
Education

• Master's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or a related field required.

Experience
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive senior healthcare executive leadership experience, including significant experience as a Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, System President, or comparable senior executive role.
• Demonstrated success leading a large, complex healthcare organization or multi-facility health system with accountability for strategy, operations, financial performance, growth, and organizational results.
• Experience operating effectively within complex governance, joint venture, partnership, or matrixed organizational structures strongly preferred.
