Product Owner to lead initiatives focused on the
Alation Data Catalog platform. The role will be responsible for defining the product vision, roadmap, and execution strategy for enterprise data catalog capabilities that improve
data discovery, governance, metadata management, and data literacy across the organization. The Product Owner will collaborate with data stewards, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure successful adoption of data governance practices and metadata management solutions.
Key Responsibilities- Define and maintain the product roadmap for Alation Data Catalog initiatives aligned with enterprise data strategy and governance goals.
- Collaborate with data stewards, data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to gather requirements and improve catalog capabilities.
- Act as the primary liaison between business teams and technical teams to ensure successful delivery of data catalog features.
- Create and manage a prioritized product backlog for catalog enhancements and governance capabilities.
- Write clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional requirements for catalog features.
- Drive the adoption of metadata standards, data lineage, and data stewardship practices using Alation.
- Ensure catalog content remains accurate, updated, and aligned with enterprise governance policies.
- Promote data literacy and catalog adoption through internal training, documentation, and awareness initiatives.
- Define and monitor KPIs and success metrics related to data catalog adoption and data quality improvements.
- Collaborate with data engineers and architects to integrate Alation with enterprise data sources such as Snowflake, AWS, and AWS Glue pipelines.
- Support automation of metadata ingestion, lineage tracking, and governance policy enforcement.
Required Skills & Experience- 6+ years of experience in Data Management, Data Governance, or Product Ownership roles.
- Hands-on experience with Alation Data Catalog or similar tools such as Collibra, OvalEdge, or other metadata management platforms.
- Strong understanding of metadata management, data lineage, and data quality frameworks.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP and modern data architectures.
- Experience working with Agile methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
