GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Natrona County District Attorney's Office in Casper, Wyoming, is seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Assistant District Attorney to join its prosecution team. This position plays a critical role in protecting public safety and upholding justice by prosecuting felony-level criminal offenses throughout Natrona County.

As an Assistant District Attorney, you will manage felony case prosecutions from initial review through trial and sentencing. Responsibilities include preparing and filing legal pleadings, arguing motions before the court, conducting jury and bench trials, collaborating with law enforcement and investigative agencies, and coordinating complex criminal investigations. This position also provides guidance and direction to assigned legal support staff to ensure the effective management of cases.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
  • Initiates prosecution of individuals for felony cases.
  • Reviews investigative reports and works with law enforcement officers and agencies to ensure that all offense elements have been investigated and that the defendant's rights are not violated.
  • Represents the State of Wyoming in jury trials and bench trials.
  • Confers and negotiates with defense attorneys on pending cases, using communication and persuasive skills to resolve the case.
  • Meets with crime victims through the Victim/Witness Coordinator assigned to the case and ensures their rights are observed and they have an opportunity to participate in the criminal justice system.
  • Handles core assignments: rule-making, contracts, document review, client counseling, legal research, opinion writing, appellate briefs, pre-trial assignments (dispositive motions, discovery), trial assignments (preparing witnesses, exhibits, assisting in developing & executing strategy, contested cases), oral arguments, settlements.
  • Handles various moderate to serious legal matters and can resolve moderate cases with general supervision; assists in preparing more complex legal matters.
