Practice Leader - Power & Energy Systems
KBR Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Practice Leader - Power & Energy Systems to join our growing power sector consulting practice. This role requires strong technical expertise in power generation technologies, including natural gas combined cycle, renewables, and energy storage, coupled with experience in project development advisory, pre-FEED and FEED. This Practice Leader will be responsible for the overall Power Generation Practice, as well as be a key member of the Americas Consulting Leadership team, reporting to the Regional Director.
The successful candidate will lead technical studies, front-end design efforts, and client engagements supporting utilities, IPPs, and developers in project execution and energy transition initiatives.
The role will be based in Houston, working in a hybrid model. Other remote locations will be considered, based on vicinity to assets or client concentration.
Functional job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Provide expert advice on generation technologies: gas turbines, combined cycle, solar, wind, nuclear power, battery storage, and additional solutions like hydrogen blending and carbon capture.
Interface directly with clients and technology licensors to ensure technical alignment and project success.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge development within the practice.
Support business development efforts with technical input for proposals and presentations.
Lead technical marketing engagements like whitepapers, thought leadership and conference presentations.
Lead technical front-end engineering design (FEED) studies for new power generation and repowering projects.
Conduct feasibility assessments, technology evaluations, and integration studies (including grid interconnection and Distributed Energy Resources (DERs)).
Identify opportunities for KBR consulting, owner's engineering, PMC, EPCM, and EPC (via partnerships) services.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on environmental, permitting, commercial analyses and M&A due diligence.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
15+ years of experience in power generation engineering and consulting, preferably with a focus on the U.S. market.
Able to work within a ‘seller-doer’ model.
Hands-on experience with preliminary engineering studies and FEEDs for gas, renewables, and energy storage projects. Nuclear power experience is a plus.
Strong understanding of grid interconnection requirements and DER integration.
Strong understanding of regulatory environment.
Knowledge of decarbonization technologies, including hydrogen and carbon capture, is a plus.
Excellent communication skills and proven ability to manage client relationships.
Ability to lead technical teams and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
Client relationships with US utilities, IPPs and developers.
Basic Compensation:
$200,000-$275,000. The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and / or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
KBR may offer bonuses, commission, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
