Full Job Description
Job Title: Elder Law Practice Group Director

FLSA Classification: Exempt

Reports To: Deputy Director of Litigation

Supervises: Lead Attorneys, Staff Attorneys, Paralegals, and Legal Assistants

Pay Range: $120,000 - $145,000 Depending on Experience

Do you enjoy drafting estate planning documents? The Inland Counties Legal Services Elder Law Practice Group may be the right fit for you. ICLS' Elder Law Practice Group delivers free legal services to seniors who are age 60 and older throughout Riverside and San Bernardino counties remotely through phone and video appointments. We also offer on-site appointments at our office locations and various senior and community centers. The work is challenging and joyful, providing peace of mind to seniors as they navigate their legal issues with compassion, patience, and understanding. This position gives opportunities for zealous advocacy in areas of law impacting the lives of seniors we serve including estate planning, consumer matters, financial elder abuse, scams targeting elders, Elder Abuse, Domestic Violence and Civil Harassment Restraining Orders, Grandparent Visitation, and real property issues.

Inland Counties Legal Services is seeking a Practice Group Director to supervise and manage the Elder Law Team.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervise and manage all staff in the Elder Law practice group.
  • Monitor caseload and productivity of all staff in the Elder Law practice group to ensure that staff are operating efficiently and producing quality legal work.
  • Participate in management and administrative decision-making processes at ICLS
  • Experience with Elder Abuse, restraining orders, consumer disputes, grandparent visitation, advance planning, and estate planning cases.
  • Experience with supervising attorneys and non-attorney staff.
  • Recruit and train staff as needed.
  • The Practice Group Director will represent clients before the Superior Court.
  • The Practice Group Director will also be responsible for managing outreach and community engagement, including community education presentations.
  • Travel to and attend Outreach throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
  • Engage in grant reporting and identify and assist in grant applications
  • Represent ICLS and its Elder Law Practice Group while at outreach events, meetings with government organizations, other legal services and community-based organizations.
  • Ensure that emergency matters are identified, and timely and accurately referred to appropriate ICLS staff;
  • Provide accurate and helpful legal information, technical assistance, and referrals; and ensure that staff does the same;
  • Identify matters that fall within the priorities of ICLS's programs, and ensure that such matters are promptly, efficiently and accurately transmitted to the appropriate ICLS programs for timely assistance;
  • Perform related tasks or duties consistent with skills, abilities, and general responsibilities as assigned to support ICLS.
  • Work closely with other Practice Group Directors;
  • Ensure timely and appropriate responses to incoming requests for legal assistance;
  • Explore new models for service delivery utilizing technology; and
  • Ensure that legal services provided are consistent with ICLS's priorities, policies and procedures, and that they maximize office resources to provide the highest level of assistance.

Grant Management and Reporting
  • Ensure that grant performance expectations are met
  • Complete grant reporting requirements as needed
  • Identify new grant opportunities; collaborate with Grants and Compliance Team to apply for new grant opportunities

Contribution Towards Strategic Plan
  • Provide mentorship to staff to build legal/litigation expertise
  • Collaborate with Pro Bono team to provide opportunities to volunteer attorneys
  • Ensure that geographic locations are not a barrier to the delivery of high-quality legal services

Advancement of DEIB Related Goals and Initiatives
  • Foster an environment that welcomes and values staff
  • Encourage staff to participate in and support DEIB initiatives

Desired Education and Experience
  • At least 5 years of experience working in Elder law
  • At least 5 years of management experience in a legal environment
  • Degree from law school and active member of the California Bar in good standing
  • Ability to understand the objectives of poverty law
  • Prior work experience paid or volunteer, in legal service office serving low-income clients is considered an asset for employment.
  • Strong written, verbal and interviewing skills
  • Patient and flexible
