Full Job Description
The Powertrain Controls Engineer will work within a Centre of Excellence (CoE) belonging to the Product Release Center (PRC) - Engine Propulsion Controls and will broadly contribute in the development of engine propulsion systems for current and next-generation internal combustion engine as well as hybrid electrified propulsion systems for Stellantis vehicles.

The Controls Engineer is responsible for developing new controls strategies and enhancing existing algorithms for engine torque & stop-start management. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams and utilizing various tools (vehicle, HIL, dyno, virtual environments, rapid prototyping) throughout the software development process to ensure the quality and robustness of production algorithms.

The Controls Engineer will interface with systems and calibration teams to fully understand requirements, develop implementation strategies, assess compliance and robustness, ensure ease of calibration and document impacts against regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include implementing controls and software design efficiently, validating them against requirements in both virtual and physical environments throughout the production process as well as maintaining technical documentation. The Controls Engineer is also expected to provide technical guidance, training and act as an expert in their area of specialization. Controls algorithm development typically begins as an advanced effort but must ultimately meet program timelines and conform to high-level functional requirements.

The ideal candidate must be a strong team player and willing to work in a fast-paced environment will actively participate in decision-making regarding control strategy design to achieve functional objectives. They will also ensure that the project remains on track by developing plans, tracking progress, and presenting technical reports to the management and project leaders.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering or automotive related field
  • 5 years of overall experience
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines
  • Knowledge of modern and classical control principles
  • Experience in the following
    • Controls development in Matlab/Simulink auto-coding environment
    • Autosar based software development
    • Embedded C/C++
    • ECU & Vehicle Data Analysis Tool usage (INCA/CANalyzer)
    • Technical problem solving
    • Strong overall knowledge of vehicle & powertrain functions
    • Experience with engine controls modeling, simulation, development, validation & calibration


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree with emphasis in Mechanical, Automotive, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related field Or 10 years of experience in automotive field with skills listed in Basic qualifications
  • Experience with Engine Torque & Stop-Start Management functions for conventional and hybrid powertrains.
  • Overall knowledge of engine & transmission technologies, emissions, driveline components, driver interface & assist functions, competitive products.
  • Demonstrated experience in decomposing intended functions into controls design.
  • Experience in an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management (IBM RTC) tools
  • Familiarity with ASPICE processes for software development
  • Overall knowledge of CAN Protocol, Vehicle Electrical Network Architecture, Onboard Diagnostics
  • Knowledge of proactive/reactive quality tools (DFSS, DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.)
  • Critical character traits to ensure success: action-oriented mindset, ability to deal with ambiguity, customer focus, and strong problem-solving skills

  • Capability to work in a team and in an international environment
  • Capability of synthesis and reporting towards management
  • Availability to business trips (mainly United States of America)
  • Efficient communicational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks
