Qualifications

  • Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate required.
  • Eligibility for Interprovincial Red Seal is essential.
  • Knowledge of live line techniques preferred (bare hand, sticks, 25kv work).
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 license.
  • Current First Aid Certificate is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Construct and maintain overhead and underground power lines and substations.
  • Install street lighting systems following quality and safety standards.
  • Execute system switching per Electrical Operations Standards.
  • Supervise contractors to ensure compliance and quality work.
  • Administer maintenance programs and conduct system inspections efficiently.
  • Collaborate with technicians for effective equipment maintenance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults promptly.
  • Coordinate switching orders and manage outages meticulously.

What You'll Do:
  • Construct, operate, and maintain overhead and underground power lines, substations, and related equipment.
  • Install and maintain street lighting systems, adhering to quality and safety standards.
  • Execute system switching, in line with Electrical Operations Standards.
  • Supervise contracted labor effectively, ensuring compliance and quality.
  • Administer maintenance programs and system inspections, while maintaining comprehensive documentation.
  • Collaborate with electrical technicians for equipment installation and maintenance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system faults, offering both immediate and long-term solutions.
  • Handle emergency response and standby duties efficiently.
  • Coordinate outages and execute switching orders with precision.
  • Respond to customer service requests promptly and professionally.
  • Participate in company-sponsored community relations activities.
  • Maintain and operate company vehicles and equipment responsibly.
  • Uphold stringent safety and environmental regulations.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor apprentices and colleagues as required.
  • Engage in continuous personal and professional development.


What You Bring:
  • Valid Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.
  • Valid or eligibility for Interprovincial Red Seal.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of live line techniques using bare hand, sticks, and 25kv rubber glove work achieved through live line training is preferred.
  • Valid Class 5 vehicle operator's license; ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 Operator's License.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate.

Hay River is a designated community and a comprehensive northern benefit package will be provided, including:
  • An additional 5.2% of base salary (northern allowance)
  • An additional $660 a month (northern allowance)
  • Additional 5 days' vacation for North of 60 positions
