GFT is seeking a Power Designer/EIT to join our Practice or CBG Team in Toronto or Mississauga! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto or Mississauga office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

The growth and diversification of the Power Business Line is a top initiative, on both a regional and national scale. Our projects involve the design of high voltage infrastructure to support the upgrading and expansion of the electrical grid, design of wind generation sites, Solar (photovoltaic generation) sites, and battery storage facilities.

 

Under general supervision, the job incumbent performs electrical technical studies and preliminary designs for a wide variety of project types including industrial, renewable, and utility clients. Performs assignments of limited scope which require the application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related design engineering tasks.  Assignments may involve some unusual or difficult problems requiring job knowledge and abilities beyond entry level.

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Prepares physical electrical plans & details sectional views and outline for substations using AutoCAD and MicroStation
  • Prepare protection SLD, Three-line AC schematics. DC schematics, panel layouts, control house layouts and wiring diagrams
  • Prepare Bill of material and evaluate technical details
  • Prepare cost estimates and reports
  • Perform electrical calculations / studies including AC, DC auxiliary system, Voltage drop, short circuit and relay coordination’s in support of broader engineering activities involving the design of equipment, components, structures, or systems.
  • Gathers and records information for the preparation of technical specifications
  • Evaluates vendor submissions to assure compliance with specifications.
  • Prepare first draft of technical reports or sections of larger reports.
  • Reviews design drawings within defined limits.
  • Performs investigations & measurements and collects field data.
  • May perform some 3-D modeling.
  • Coordinates design and reviews specifications with other groups within GFT to complete project.
What you will bring to our firm: 
  • Degree in Engineering.
  • 2 to 3 years of applicable experience
  • Hands on experience on AutoCAD and MicroStation, Building Information Modeling (BIM)
  • Working knowledge of Design Software
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)

What we prefer you bring:

  • Master’s Degree in electrical engineering preferred.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam preferred.
  • Registered as an EIT.
Compensation: The salary range for this role is $68,200 - $98,000.
