Full Job Description
Halff has an immediate opening for a Power BI developer (Business Analyst / Power BI). The successful candidate must be a motivated learner ready to quickly learn new business models, integrated data sets, and systems. This is not a visualization-only role; the person in this position must be able communicate business value with data accurately.

We are looking for a well-rounded professional who can create polished, professional Power BI dashboards, semantic models, and curated reporting datasets. The ideal candidate is comfortable learning new accounting systems, project and operational data sets; researching unfamiliar data structures; validating results against trusted sources; and helping build reusable datasets rather than relying solely on others for data engineering support. Experience in the AEC / professional services industry, project accounting concepts, or similar ERP-driven environments is highly valued.

What you will do:
  • Assist in the design and development of polished Power BI dashboards, including report layout, usability reviews, DAX measures, semantic models
  • Validate dashboards and datasets against source systems, legacy reports, accounting outputs, and other trusted reporting sources
  • Trace data from source systems through SQL, Fabric, semantic models, and Power BI reports to validate accuracy and explain results
  • Research and understand existing SQL Server VP/DataMart datasets, Microsoft Fabric data assets, semantic models, and reporting logic.
  • Design and maintain curated reporting datasets and semantic models in Microsoft Fabric to support scalable, governed analytics
  • Collaborate with internal clients to translate business needs into technical requirements, identify appropriate data sources, and deliver vetted dashboards and datasets
  • Document dataset definitions, business rules, data lineage, assumptions, and known limitations
  • Support front-office, production/operations, and management reporting needs as part of a cross-trained Business Systems team

What you will need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Analysis, Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related area; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Intermediate Power BI experience, including DAX, data modeling, semantic models, report design, performance tuning, and row/column-level security
  • Strong troubleshooting / critical thinking skills
  • Strong curiosity, drive, persistence, and ability to quickly learn new business systems, tools, terminology, and processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to research unfamiliar business data, understand source-system context, and turn complex operational data into trusted reporting structures.
  • Intermediate Microsoft SQL Server experience, including writing, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex T-SQL queries, views, and stored procedures.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling concepts, including fact/dimension design, grain, star & snowflake schema design
  • Experience validating data and dashboards against other reporting sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and business confidence.
  • Ability to manage small to medium-sized projects of moderate complexity.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills

Nice-to-Have Skills:
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint/Vision or other Deltek products.
  • Documenting data sets and semantic models to make them AI-ready?
  • Using assistive AI technologies for dashboard development.
  • Ability to work with business leaders, accounting/finance, operations, and technical team members to understand business needs and deliver practical data solutions.
  • Experience with exercising and documenting best practices for dashboard design and data engineering
  • Experience with provisioning self-service analytics
  • Experience creating dashboards for project performance, billing, utilization, backlog, revenue, labor, financial, or operational reporting
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric medallion architecture, lakehouses, warehouses, notebooks, and data pipelines
  • Understanding of compliance, data governance, security, lineage, and documentation practices in reporting and system design

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
