Position: Power BI Developer

Location: Markham, ON

Hybrid

Job Description:

As a key technical member of the IT team, you will lead the development of robust data pipelines, including data cleansing and loading into the data warehouse, to enable reliable and scalable reporting solutions. Beyond the technical build, you bring genuine expertise in visualization and dashboarding, the analytical thinking to know which metric matters, which chart tells the story, and how to design an executive dashboard that turns dense operational data into a clear, decision-ready view. You will design intuitive user experience layouts, build impactful visualizations, conduct functional testing, and develop reports that align with business requirements, translating user needs into stable, efficient system solutions that provide critical reporting support to drive successful solution delivery and informed decision-making.

The ideal candidate has a deep, practical understanding of data modeling, and how to structure relationships across tables and systems so that executive dashboards and KPIs are accurate, performant, and easy to trust. You are as comfortable in the language of the business as you are in DAX: you understand financial management fundamentals, sales and marketing metrics, and how to take detailed production and operational data from the plant floor and translate it into the KPI-level visualizations that executives and department leaders rely on. You have strong experience developing enterprise-grade Power BI solutions within ERP and complex technology environments, following SDLC standards and disciplined version control practices, with expertise in data pipelines, ETL processes, and transforming raw data into scalable data models and impactful visualizations, along with a commitment to governance, quality, and deployment best practices.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Data Modelling & Integration
  • Design and implement end-to-end data pipelines, extracting raw data from internal systems, cleansing and loading into the BI tool.
  • Lead the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) of data from business-critical systems such as ERP, CRM, and other data sources.
  • Design and maintain efficient, scalable semantic data models, applying strong knowledge of database relationships (primary/foreign keys, cardinality, star and snowflake schemas) to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Integrate data from other sources (e.g., SQL databases, Excel, SharePoint) to build a unified view for analytics across finance, sales, marketing, and production.

Report Development & Visualization
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of company-wide Power BI dashboards and analytical tools, with particular focus on executive-level dashboards and KPI reporting.
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards, reports, and analytical tools using Power BI Desktop, applying strong visualization and UI/UX principles to ensure every dashboard is intuitive, visually clear, and built around the right metrics.
  • Utilize advanced DAX to create complex calculated measures, KPIs, and business logic that accurately reflect financial, sales, marketing, and operational performance.
  • Translate detailed production and manufacturing data into concise, executive-friendly KPI visualizations that surface trends, bottlenecks, and performance against target.
  • Ensure dashboard design is intuitive, visually appealing, and provides an excellent user experience for audiences ranging from plant-floor supervisors to senior executives.

Business Collaboration & Analysis
  • Proactively engage with finance, sales, marketing, and operations departments to understand their reporting challenges and analytical needs.
  • Apply working knowledge of financial management (budgeting, cost, margin) and sales/marketing metrics (pipeline, conversion, revenue) to build KPIs that are meaningful to the business, not just technically correct.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Operations) to translate data insights into concrete business initiatives and process improvements.
  • Translate non-technical business problems into clear technical specifications and data solutions, using structured analytical thinking to identify the underlying question before building the dashboard.
  • Provide training and support to business and finance users to enhance data literacy across the organization.

Solution Management & Optimization
  • Manage Power BI Service workspaces, data gateways, refresh schedules, and security permissions.
  • Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of reports and data models.
  • Adhere to data governance best practices, ensuring data security and compliance.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in Power BI development, with a proven track record of end-to-end project delivery.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data visualization and dashboarding, with strong analytical thinking and the judgment to select the right metrics, visuals, and layout for executive audiences.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling concepts and database relationships (Star Schema, Snowflake Schema, keys, cardinality) appropriate for building reliable executive dashboards and KPIs.
  • Extensive, demonstrable experience working with ERP systems and CRM systems as a primary data source, with a deep understanding of supply-chain data structure and business logic.
  • Working understanding of financial management concepts (budgeting, cost analysis, margin) and sales/marketing metrics, with the ability to translate them into accurate, business-relevant KPIs.
  • Experience translating detailed production, manufacturing, or operational data into executive-level KPI visualizations.
  • Excellent data visualization and UI/UX design skills for creating clear and impactful reports.
  • Expert-level proficiency in DAX and Power Query (M) for creating complex calculations and performing data transformations.
  • Strong analytical skills and structured approach to handling large, multi-source datasets.
  • Knowledge of business processes and business analysis.
  • Experience with BI tools and Azure-related technologies, including Power BI, Azure Synapse, Azure SQL, and Data Factory.
  • Ability to identify patterns, anomalies, and growth opportunities within complex datasets.
  • Working knowledge of QAD, SAP, and Salesforce is an asset.
  • Exceptional proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required.
  • Strong decision-making skills based on data and business context.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage complexity and deliver insights in uncertain situations.
  • Familiarity with lean processes and continuous improvement frameworks.
