The Opportunity:The Poultry Veterinarian is responsible for leading flock health, welfare, and quality across Maple Leaf Foods' live poultry operations. This role provides veterinary technical services for broiler breeders, hatcheries, and when needed, broiler production. The position works closely with live operations, hatchery, quality assurance, laboratory, animal welfare, and producer teams to improve flock health, hatchability, chick quality, and broiler breeder performance results. The Poultry Veterinarian represents Maple Leaf Foods in poultry health-related industry activities and supports proactive programs related to disease prevention, antimicrobial stewardship, animal welfare, and food safety.

Compensation:$96,000 - $141,000 CAD base pay annually plus annual short-term incentive

The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to participate in Maple Leaf's annual short-term incentive plan.
Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:- Deliver technical services and guidance on poultry health, including preventive medicine, disease control programs, diagnostic testing, vaccination programs, animal welfare, and antimicrobial use
- Conduct flock health field visits and postmortems for broiler breeders, hatcheries, and occasionally broilers
- Guide bird husbandry programs
- Provide technical guidance for hatchability and incubation issues
- Provide technical guidance for chick health
- Deliver training as needed throughout the poultry operations
- Support MLF initiatives including animal welfare, antimicrobial use, and food safety
- Provide oversight to third party veterinary services serving Ontario producers
- Implement proactive food safety programs relating to live poultry
- Employ a proactive approach to antibiotic use and preventing antibiotic resistance
- Support programs and projects such as raised without antibiotics, breed evaluation, bird health, feed programs, and other new initiatives
- Ensure regulatory compliance for live poultry health and disease response programs
- Coordinate with CFIA, provincial authorities, industry partners, and internal MLF teams as needed.
What You'll Bring:- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine; eligible for licensure in Ontario
- Experienced and/or specialized in poultry
- American College of Poultry Veterinarians certification is an asset
- Effective communication and influencing skills

- Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving ability
- Advanced computer and data analytic skills required
