The successful applicant will commit to a demanding clinical schedule, providing supervised clinical ethics consultation, on-call coverage, education throughout the UCLA Health system, assistance in developing institutional policies, service as a member of three ethics committees, and participate in the Center's scholarly and research activities. The goal of the UCLA Clinical Ethics Fellowship Program is to provide the ethics fellow with the clinical education, experience and training necessary to function, upon completion of our 2 year fellowship program, as a professional clinical ethicist. Both the educational and practical dimensions of the fellowship program have as their primary and immediate goal the acquisition of the knowledge base and skill-set necessary for advanced proficiency in clinical ethics consultation. The newly revised 'advanced' Core Competencies for Health Care Ethics Consultation specified by the American Society for Bioethics and the Humanities form the basis for identifying and evaluating proficiency in clinical ethics consultation necessary to successfully complete the fellowship program. In addition to helping fellows acquire advanced consultation competence, the fellowship program will also provide opportunities to develop skills in clinical ethics education, policy-development and research.
