This Opportunity

WSP is initiating a search for a Ports and Marine Project Manager with the potential to work out of any of our Maritime offices within Raleigh-NC, Houston-TX, San Diego+Irvine-CA, Tampa-FL.

The successful candidate will be involved in projects with our Ports and Maritime Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. Our Maritime group comprises of highly motivated analysts, planners, and maritime civil and structural engineers, working in several key locations across the US and internationally. Major clients are port authorities, U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, terminal operators, contractors, private entities, and municipalities. Our strength is derived from the diversity of our marine-related work and our staff.

The projects are diverse in nature, interesting, and challenging. As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for Maritime projects or groups of smaller capital projects, including the management of task leaders, schedules, budgets, and client expectations. You will participate in the formulation and presentation of technical concepts in proposal development, during the design phase, and for client presentations. Additionally, you will be engaged in the growth and development of our team by providing mentorship, technical guidance, and participation in the hiring and evaluation of junior staff. Your Impact
  • Take responsible charge for supervising the work of staff engineers, supervising task leads, and self-perform calculations and prepare drawings and technical specifications.
  • Prepare technical studies and reports and guide/review the work of staff engineers.
  • Perform oversight of calculations, cost estimates, drawings, technical specifications and reports.
  • Perform quality assurance checks. Manage/ lead projects, tasks and staff for marine facility projects, including various types of cargo terminals (e.g. container, bulk, break-bulk), federal facilities (homeporting piers and shipyards), and clients (port authorities, DoD, private terminals, public agencies, etc.).
  • Perform multiple discipline management and coordination of internal and external teams comprised of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, coastal, fire protection, and architecture.
  • Prepare alternatives analysis reports and presentations for repair projects and capital improvement programs.
  • Lead review meetings, client presentations, and design charrettes.
  • Perform business development and general marketing activities. Maintain positive client relationships. Participate in preparation of technical proposals, presentations, negotiations, and staff estimates.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • 7+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior marine, port, and coastal design experience.
  • Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
  • Aptitude in maritime related codes (ASCE, COPRI, etc.) and Department of Defense (UFC, UFGC) criteria.
  • Competency or ability to supervise staff in state-of-the-art computer programs.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card which requires a TSA background check.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Engineering.
  • Experience with design and management of Port Authority, NAVY, or Coast Guard projects.
