The RoleThe Capital Markets & Factor Investing ("CMF") department invests globally across public equities, fixed income, currencies, commodities and derivatives through internally and externally managed strategies. CMF seeks to deliver scalable, liquid and diversifying sources of return to the Fund, with an emphasis on market-neutral alpha, capital efficiency and differentiated investment capabilities.
The Strategy, Risk & Operations ("SRO") group supports CMF's portfolio and department strategy, portfolio construction and risk management, investment governance, business planning and operational priorities.
The Senior Associate / Portfolio Manager, Portfolio Construction & Risk, Strategy, Risk & Operations plays a key role in developing and executing these priorities. The individual works closely with CMF senior leadership and investment teams, as well as OCIO, TFM, Investment Risk, Finance and other enterprise partners, to translate strategic priorities and complex portfolio information into actionable recommendations and scalable capabilities.
The role requires a combination of investment judgment, strategic thinking, quantitative analysis, project leadership and executive communication. The successful candidate will operate with a broad One CMF and One Fund perspective, independently lead complex workstreams, constructively challenge thinking, and contribute to the development of junior colleagues.
The TeamAccountabilities- Lead analysis supporting CMF's annual and multi-year investment strategy and key strategic priorities.
- Translate Fund-level priorities and Investment Signals into actionable recommendations for CMF.
- Assess emerging market, investment and organizational developments and identify implications for CMF's portfolio and capabilities.
- Evaluate strategic choices and resource trade-offs using a One Fund and relative-value perspective.
- Lead major strategic reviews, including Investment Strategy Reviews, Decision Analysis and other senior-management or governance initiatives.
- Lead the development of analysis, recommendations and materials for the CMF Investment Committee, Management Committee and other senior forums.
- Synthesize complex portfolio, risk and strategic information into clear, decision-useful communication for senior audiences.
- Develop and synthesize a CMF-level perspective on portfolio risk, return, capital and portfolio construction, integrating insights across EPM and SSG.
- Evaluate portfolio composition, diversification, concentration, exposures, correlations, scalability and resilience across market environments.
- Identify key portfolio questions, develop appropriate analysis and translate quantitative and qualitative information into decision-useful insights.
- Support relative-value and capital-allocation decisions through consistent analytical frameworks across investment strategies.
- Contribute to the continued evolution of CMF's portfolio construction and risk framework, governance and analytical capabilities.
- Build trusted relationships with investment teams and enabling partners, providing independent advice and constructive challenge.
- Contribute to a collaborative, intellectually rigorous and inclusive team environment.
Qualifications- Relevant experience in investment management, portfolio strategy, portfolio construction or related field.
- Strong understanding of financial markets, portfolio management, and hedge fund strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently structure and solve complex and ambiguous problems. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including interpretation of portfolio, performance, risk and capital information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize complex topics for senior audiences.
- Strong stakeholder-management and project-leadership skills.
- Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment and willingness to constructively challenge assumptions.
- Experience coaching or developing junior colleagues.
- Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint; experience with GenAI-enabled tools is an asset.
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in a relevant discipline; CFA or other relevant professional qualification is an asset.
