Port Engineer - Westwego, LA
This is a full-time, exempt level position.

Position Summary:
  • ADM is seeking a port engineer to oversee lineboat projects, overhauls and shipyard repairs at our American River Transportation Company (ARTCo) in St. Louis, MO. This position reports to the lineboat Vessel manager in Westwego, LA.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs major and specialized mechanical overhaul and repair work on gasoline and marine engines, motors, and related marine equipment and systems using schematic charts and technical manuals
  • Perform project manager functions for various shipyard periods and major repairs/conversions
  • Establishes, maintains, and supervises preventive maintenance programs for marine engines and related marine equipment, including main engine and generator overhaul program.
  • Troubleshoots and tests marine equipment to determine need for repairs or adjustments
  • Operates hand and power tools associated with marine engine and equipment repair
  • Supervises shop employees including mechanics and utility personnel.
  • Purchases parts and supplies
  • Writes specifications for and recommends purchase of marine equipment
  • Compile work and time schedules
  • Analyze reports, maintain engineering computer programs, and maintain underwater spares inventory
  • Follow USCG and other government regulations
  • Research, develop, and implement special project, both in engineering and other departments
  • Promote safe working environment for all employees

Job Requirements:
  • Must be able to perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of marine engines, marine machinery, and related equipment
  • Must be able to perform computer skills, including emailing, Microsoft office applications, and internet-based applications
  • Possess working knowledge of electrical, computer, hydraulic and fluid systems, fuel systems, general mechanical knowledge of all vessel operations
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Experience in vessel new construction is preferred
  • Promote safe working environment for all employees

  • Able to communicate with all levels of the organization
Physical Requirements:
  • Sitting, standing and operating a keyboard for extended periods of time
  • Walking, balancing, bending, lifting and carrying weight or 50 pounds or more
  • Grasping, reaching, sitting, standing, turning, twisting
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • Working indoors and outdoors for extended periods of time in environments at varying temperatures and noise levels
  • Kneeling, climbing stairs/ladders and working on the telephone
