Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Duties

Help

The Podiatrist shall incorporate the various training techniques taught within Podiatry and may apply safe and effective advanced Podiatry techniques. The Podiatrist shall educate patients on health lifestyle changes including nutrition, exercise, sleeping habits, stress management, mind body techniques and other matters related to Podiatry care.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Utilizes standard medical evaluation procedures to formulate a differential diagnosis to develop an Podiatry treatment plan.
• Provides group Podiatry as determined.
• Documents and codes information related to patient care in the VA's electronic health care record on a timely basis following VHA policies; iMed consent shall be completed prior to Podiatry treatment where any invasive procedure occurs.
• Communicates with other health care providers as appropriate.
• Maintains up-to-date VHA and professional trainings.
• Attends required meetings.
• Reviews referrals, screen for appropriateness of care, and direct Veterans to other services when necessary.
• Is the subject matter expert on Podiatry services and will provide guidance when requested regarding purchased care.
• Knowledge of complex issues surrounding the delivery of care as it relates to Podiatry services, such as evidence based and cost effectiveness.
• Problem solve issues in the delivery of Podiatry.
• Participates in teaching principles of Podiatry to staff, students, and residents including journal clubs, grand rounds and in-service trainings.
• Provides assistance as needed for issues or problems that arise in relation to the Podiatry practice and serves as a preceptor to new staff or less experienced staff and students.
• Complete medical and surgical management of podiatric pathology.
• Prescription of pharmaceuticals and therapeutic devices (orthotics, prosthetic devices, plaster casts, immobilization devices, etc.)

Additional Requirements: Experience with Veteran care, diabetic foot care, board certification preferred, and wound care.

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Podiatrist Basic Requirements

• Degree as a doctor of podiatric medicine, or its equivalent, from a school of podiatric medicine approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Approved schools are United States schools of podiatric medicine approved by the Council on Podiatry Education of the American Podiatry Association in the year in which the degree was granted. ~AND~
• Completed, or currently completing, residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. ~AND~
• Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice Podiatry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia.
