Full Job Description
SMC is actively looking for Mid-Level Plumbing Engineer/Designer to execute plumbing design for mission critical projects. Typical project types may include design of greenfield and brownfield data center facilities, design of fit-out packages for hyperscale and enterprise clients of colocation providers, data center campus planning, conceptual designs and feasibility studies, and various system calculations. This candidate shall be capable of executing basic plumbing design projects independently, taking established design criteria through generation of design plans and specifications for permitting and construction. The candidate shall also be capable as serving as a key contributor in part of a larger plumbing design team on large and/or complex mission critical projects under the guidance of a senior engineer. The plumbing design scope will be a part of a broader project and therefore this candidate should be capable of interfacing with design leads within SMC (electrical, telecommunications, fire protection, mechanical) as well as externally including architectural, civil, structural, etc. RESPONSIBILITIES This candidate will have the opportunity to execute plumbing design of various project types while working and coordinating with clients and design leads from all disciplines, as well as serve as the daily lead on smaller projects. This candidate shall have the ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and with clients while being able to meet scheduled project deadlines. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 3Utilize Autodesk Revit to produce detailed design documents from schematic design to construction.3Perform engineering calculation for all plumbing systems, including sanitary, storm and domestic water. 3Select and specify plumbing equipment. 3Meet project deadlines, including working necessary hours to complete major deliverables. 3Understand local and national construction codes and project specifications to grow a broader understanding of the construction process. 3Have the ability to travel when required to project sites (approximately 10-20% travel). 3Have the ability to clearly communicate with others in both written and spoken forms. 3Collaborate with departmental staff on various tasks. 3Mentor and train junior engineers, designers and modelers to assist in developing plumbing design knowledge base. 3Maintain excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously QUALIFICATIONS 3Minimum 4 years of experience in plumbing design, particularly using Autodesk Revit for drawing development. 3Experience in plumbing design for larger industrial and commercial buildings is preferred, with experience in mission critical design a plus. 3Experience working across the entire construction process, from schematic design through construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, and field work such as existing condition surveys, site observations, and punch lists. 3Have experience with the use of Microsoft tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams. 3Have experience with Bluebeam. 3Experience in using construction management tools such as Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud preferred. 3Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced working environment.
