Full Job Description
Opening: PLM Manager

Location: On-Site / Remote / Hybrid

Department: Program Management

Reports To: Sr. Director of Program Management

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We're looking for an experienced PLM Manager to own and administer our Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, ensuring it effectively supports engineering, integration, and business processes across the product lifecycle. This role combines technical system administration, data governance, and cross-functional process leadership - you'll be the go-to owner for how product data, BOMs, CAD, and item lifecycles flow through the organization. You'll partner closely with engineering, IT, sales, and quality to keep the platform reliable, scalable, and aligned with business needs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Own administration of the PLM system (e.g., Windchill, Teamcenter, Arena, Agile PLM, Propel, etc.), including configuration, workflows, user roles, and permissions
  • Define and enforce data governance standards: part numbering schemes, BOM structures, item/document lifecycle states, and classification/attribute standards
  • Manage system upgrades, patches, and platform roadmap in coordination with the software vendor and internal IT
  • Design and maintain PLM workflows to support engineering releases, change processes, and approvals
  • Oversee integrations between PLM and adjacent systems (ERP, MES, CAD tools, quality systems), ensuring clean, reliable data flow
  • Lead or support data migration efforts (e.g., legacy system consolidation, new site onboarding, M&A integration)
  • Troubleshoot system issues, manage support tickets, and act as primary liaison with the PLM vendor or implementation partner
  • Train and support end users (engineers, CAD designers, manufacturing engineers) on PLM tools, workflows, and best practices
  • Monitor system performance, data quality, and usage metrics; recommend improvements
  • Partner with engineering leadership to align PLM capabilities with product development and configuration management needs
  • Manage PLM licensing, budget, and vendor contracts
  • Ensure PLM practices support compliance and audit requirements (e.g., traceability, revision control, document retention)
  • Evaluate and implement new PLM modules or capabilities (e.g., requirements management, MBOM/EBOM reconciliation, supplier collaboration)
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of experience administering or managing a PLM system in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience configuring PLM workflows, data models, and user permissions
  • Strong understanding of product data structures: BOMs (EBOM/MBOM), CAD data management, item/document lifecycles
  • Experience integrating PLM with ERP, MES, or CAD systems
  • Solid understanding of configuration management principles (e.g., EIA-649, ISO 10007)
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; comfortable working with both technical system issues and business process design
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to work across engineering, IT, manufacturing, and quality teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct administrator-level experience with a specific PLM platform (Windchill, Teamcenter, Arena, Agile PLM, Propel, etc.)
  • Familiarity with CAD systems (SolidWorks, AutoDesk, Creo, NX, CATIA) and their PLM integration
  • Experience with data migration or system implementation projects
  • Knowledge of scripting or API-based integration work (e.g., REST APIs, PLM SDKs)
  • Six Sigma, ITIL, or process improvement certification
  • Prior experience supporting or chairing an engineering change control board
Key Competencies
  • Strong systems thinking - able to see how data and process decisions ripple across engineering, manufacturing, and quality
  • Detail-oriented with rigorous data governance discipline
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on technical administration with strategic platform planning
  • Effective communicator able to translate between technical system capabilities and business process needs
  • Vendor and stakeholder management skills
